ELECTRICAL
MACHINES I
Lesson 7 & 8
Solving Problems:

1. The armature of a 6-pole lap wound dc motor has 1000

conductors and draws an armature current of 80 A when the
speed is 600 rpm. If the flux per pole is 50 mWb, determine
the horsepower developed in the armature.

2. If the power transmitted by the shaft of a motor is 30 hp and

the torque extend at the pulley is 250 N-m, what is the speed?

3. The armature of a 4-pole lap wound dc motor has 1,000

conductors and draws an armature current of 90 A when the
speed is 600 rpm. If the flux per pole is 80 mWb, determine
the horsepower developed in the armature.

ANSWER:

1. T = PIa Zᵠ / 2πA

T = PIa Zᵠ / 2π(mP)
T = (80A) (1000)(0.05) / 2Π (1)
T = 636.620N-m

ANSWER:

2. HP = 2 πNT / 44,760

N = HP (44,760) / 2π (T)
N = 30 (44,760) / 2π (250)
N = 854.853 rpm
