CARS

By: Francisco Javier Ruiz Meléndez and Dania Soriano Corona

What is cars?
• Cars is a 2006 animated film produced by Pixar
Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney
Pictures. The film was directed from a screenplay
by Daniel Fogelman, John Lasseter and Joe Ranft.
• The success of Cars launched a multimedia
franchise and a series of two sequels produced by
Pixar and two spin-offs produced by Disneytoon
Studios, beginning with Cars 2.
First movie plot
• Lightning McQueen is a promising motorsports figure, who is
about to win his first Piston Cup, even though he is a rookie.
However, the day he heads to the circuit, he has an accident and
ends up lost in a half-abandoned town called Radiator Springs,
where he is forced to stay. There he will discover many values
that he seemed not to have and his life will turn completely
upside down. He will realize that everything he seemed to have
has no importance in that place and that what really matters is
not success or power, but the effort to achieve it and
camaraderie.
Second movie plot
• Lightning McQueen and Mater the tow truck
travel abroad to participate in the first World
Championship in which the fastest car on earth
will be decided. Mater will become a secret spy
and McQueen will compete against the best cars.
The championship will take them to Japan, Paris,
London and finally, Italy. However, they will be
too busy to enjoy the pleasures of each place.
Third movie plot
• Blindsided by a new generation of ultra-fast racers, the
legendary Lightning McQueen is suddenly sidelined
from the sport he loves so much. To resume his career,
he will need the help of a young racing mechanic,
Cruz Ramírez, who has his own plan to win, as well as
inspiration from the late Fabulous Hudson Hornet and
a couple of unexpected twists. And to prove that #95 is
far from finished, the champion will have to test his
worth on the great Piston Cup circuit!
Cast
• Thomas Jeffrey Hanks, Tim Allen, William Edward
Crystal, John Stephen Goodman, Dave Foley and John
Dezso Ratzenberger reprise their vocal roles from
previous Pixar films during an end credits sequence
featuring car parodies from Toy Story, Monsters, Inc.
and A Bug's Life. Cars was the last Pixar film to
feature Joseph Henry Ranft, who died in an accident a
year before the film's release, at age 45. The film was
the second dedicated to his memory, after Corpse
Bride.
Curiosities
• The original name of the film was Route 66, but so that no one
would associate the film with the television show of the same
name, it was decided to change it to Cars.
• 'The King' is based on the great American runner Richard Petty,
whose nickname is precisely 'The King'. The car is reminiscent
of a 1970 Plymouth Superbird in which Richard Petty had
several victories. Likewise, the number 43 and the color sky
blue have been traditionally used in their racing cars. Finally, in
English, Richard Petty himself lends his voice to 'The King'.
