The sunni and shia

PART ONE
Shia
also known as Shiites, is one of the two major branches of Islam, the other being Sunni.
Shia Muslims are followers of the Shia sect of Islam and make up a significant portion of
the Muslim population worldwide.

The term "Shia" comes from the Arabic word "Shi'at Ali," which means "the party of
Ali." Shia Muslims believe that Ali ibn Abi Talib, the cousin and son-in-law of Prophet
Muhammad, was the rightful successor to the Prophet and that the leadership of the
Muslim community should have remained within the Prophet's family.

Shia Islam places a strong emphasis on the concept of Imamate, which refers to the
spiritual and political leadership of the Muslim community. Shia Muslims believe in the
infallibility and divine appointment of the imams, who are considered to be the rightful
successors of Prophet Muhammad.
Sunni
Sunni is one of the two major branches of Islam, the other being Shia. Sunni Muslims are
followers of the Sunni sect of Islam and constitute the majority of the Muslim population
worldwide.

The term "Sunni" comes from the Arabic word "Ahl as-Sunnah wa al-Jama'ah," which
means "people of the tradition and the community." Sunni Muslims follow the teachings
and practices of Prophet Muhammad as recorded in the Quran and the Hadith (sayings
and actions of the Prophet).

Sunni Islam places emphasis on the consensus of the Muslim community and the
importance of following the example of the Prophet Muhammad, known as the Sunnah.
Sunni Muslims believe that the leader of the Muslim community, known as the caliph,
should be chosen through consensus or election by the community.

Sunni Muslims have a diverse range of legal schools of thought, known as madhhabs, such
as Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi'i, and Hanbali. These schools of thought provide guidance on
matters of Islamic law, worship, and daily life.

It's important to note that while Sunni Muslims are the majority globally, there are
several countries where Shia Muslims make up the majority or a significant minority.
For example, Shia Muslims are the majority in Iran, Iraq, and Azerbaijan, and they
are a minority in countries like Pakistan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Yemen,
Nigeria, Afghanistan, Chad, Turkey, Bahrain, and Kuwait.

Islam in the Philippines

PART THREE
Islam in the Philippines

Islam in the Philippines is the second largest religion in the country,

and historically, it reached the Philippine archipelago in the 14th
century through contact with Muslim Malay and Arab merchants.
Sunni Islam is the dominant division of Islam in the Philippines. The
majority of Muslims in the country follow Sunni Islam.
According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing in the
Philippines, Islam was reported as the religious affiliation of 6,981,710
persons, which accounts for approximately 6.4% of the population.

It's important to note that while Sunni Islam is the dominant division,
there may still be a presence of Shia Muslims in the Philippines, albeit
smaller in number.
