MULTIPLICATIO

N AND DIVISION
OF RADICALS
MULTIPLICATION
OF RADICALS
Steps to Solve

First is to multiply the numbers inside the radical sign, the

radicands, together.

Second is to multiply the numbers outside the radical sign

together ( if there is a number outside).

Don’t forget only that only radicals with the same index can be
combined through multiplication!
Multiplying Radicals
Examples:

√7 × √6 = √7×6 = √42
3
√67 × 3 √30 = 3 √2,010
√27 × √5= √9×3× √3 = 3 √3 × √4 = 3 √3×5 = 3 √15
DIVISION OF
RADICALS
Steps to Solve

First, use the quotient rule to express the radical with a fraction
where each expression is radical. Then simplify the expression
by either division or common factors. Rationalize when possible
before simplifying.

Quotient Rule:
n
√ a / b = n√ a / n√ b
Dividing Radicals

Examples:
√8 / √2 = √ 18/2 = √9 = 3
√6 / √5 = √6 / √5 × √5 / √5 = √30 / √25 = √30 / 5
