MARK 10: 17-22

NT
MARK 10: 17-
22
17 As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees
before him. “Good teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal
life?”

18 “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except

God alone. 19 You know the commandments: ‘You shall not murder, you
shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false
testimony, you shall not defraud, honor your father and mother.’”
MARK 10: 17-
22
20 “Teacher,” he declared, “all these I have kept since I was a boy.”

21 Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go,
sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in
heaven. Then come, follow me.”

22 At this the man’s face fell. He went away sad, because he had great
wealth.

faith—and this is not from yourselves , it is the
gift of God—not by works, so that no one can
boast."
GALATIANS 2:16
16 know that a person is not justified by the works
of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too,
have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be
justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of
the law, because by the works of the law no one
will be justified.

PSALM 51:3-4
3 For I know my transgressions ,
and my sin is always before me.
4 Against you, you only, have I sinned
and done what is evil in your sight;
so you are right in your verdict
and justified when you judge.
1 JOHN 1:8-9
8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive
ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we
confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will
forgive us our sins and purify us from all
unrighteousness.
THE MISSING
3 The young INGREDIENTS
man did not have a changed heart

• “One thing you lack” = “You are behind one thing”

• For this man, his love and dependence on wealth was the
thing that wouldn't let him pass

• His attitude towards his earthly treasure that was blocking

the way.
MARK 8:34-37
34 Then he called the crowd to him along with his
disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple
must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow
me.
35 For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but
whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will
save it. 36 What good is it for someone to gain the
whole world, yet forfeit their soul? 37 Or what can
anyone give in exchange for their soul?
