OVERVIEW
Cholera is an acute diarrhoeal infection caused by
ingestion of food or water contaminated with the
bacterium Vibrio cholerae.
Vibrio cholerae is the causative agent of cholera, a highly
contagious diarrheal disease affecting millions worldwide
each year.

SPREAD
During the 19th century, cholera spread across the world
from its original reservoir in the Ganges delta in India.
Seven subsequent pandemics killed millions of people
across all continents. There are 7(seven) pandemic.

A pandemic is a widespread disease in a country or the
whole world with a large part of the population affected at a
particular time.
ENDEMIC
Cholera is endemic in more than 69
countries around the world.
SPREAD
One of the first detailed accounts of a cholera epidemic comes
from Gaspar Correa—who described an outbreak in the spring
of 1543 of a disease in the Ganges Delta, which is located in the
south Asia area of Bangladesh and India. The local people
called the disease “moryxy”
