Week 5

Class 1
SCALES!
Everyone should be familiar with the C major scale now.

It is time to begin delving into other scales. But first, let’s start with understanding the
construction of the C Major scale.

First, a few questions!

What is a scale?
Why do we use scales?
C Major Scale

W W H W W W H
Natural Minor Scale

W H W W H W
W
But I don’t WANT to play the black keys!
That is OK! Because we are not going to start with C minor. Our first minor scale is A
natural minor.

See if you can use our “Equation” to figure out how to play it on piano

Week 5 Class 2
Transcription due!
You should have your transcription done by Tuesday morning. I will be checking all of
them on Tuesday. If you need help I am available during recess on Thursday and Friday,
and I am available after school on Thursday.
Discussion Time (Think Pair Share)
What affects the way we interpret a genre?

Is it the way an artist looks (How they dress, where they come from), what the music
sounds like, memories we link to certain music, etc?

Come up with some ideas in a pair and then share them with the class.
More Ear training!
Before we continue our summative work we will play a quick ear training game!

It’s called “Pass the Melody”

We will use only white notes on the piano.

I will play a short melody and have the person next to me try and guess what it is. That
person will then come up with a short melody and so on.

Let’s give it a try!

ONLY USE WHITE KEYS!
