George Walker Bush was
the 43rd President of the
United States from 2001
to 2009. He faced many
challenges during his
time in the office.
Early life and
education
George W. Bush was born on July 6,1946 in New Haven. He
was the first child in family .He was raised in Midlend and
Houston,Texas, with four another siblings. His younger sister died
from leukemia at the age of three. His father was 41st U. S.
president from 1989 to 1993.
George attended public school in Midland, Texas until the family moved
to Houston after he had completed seventh grade .He was in high school
at Philips Academy where he played baseball and was the head
cheerleader during his senior vear. In the fall of 1973 Bush
entered Harvard Business School. He graduated 1975 with MBA degree,
and is the only U. S. president to have earned an MBA.
Career and presidency
When he was elected
governor of Texas in 1994, he
suprised everyone, even his
own family, because he
managed to defeat the
popular Democratic candidate
Ann Richards by 350,000
more votes. Bush built his
suprise victory on promoting
increased local control of
schools and welfare form.
He began his election campaing on promises that he would allow the
Republican Party more influence on the presidents" decisions - dignity of
the White House. With the terrorist attacks of Septemper 11, 2001 Bush´s
policy suddenly made sense and he was called the fight the against
terrorism. Under that name, Bush, with the support European countries
especially Great Britain and some Islamic countries led war against the
Taliban in the Afghanistan . The number of civilians killed in that war is
estimated at 18 thousand. After leaving office , he focused on
humanitarian work.
