INTRODUCTION

 This book is to remind people of the virtue and benefits of Sadaqah (Charity)
in this life and the Hereafter, using Allah’s Statements and the Ahadiith as a
guide.
 There are many Quranic Verses, Ahadith and good advise that encourage
voluntary charity.
ABOUT CHARITY

Sadaqah (charity) shades its giver from the intense heat then. It makes one’s
reckoning lighter. It makes one’s Mizan (scale of good deeds) heavier.
Sadaqah helps cross over the Sirat.
 Sadaqah (charity) is a central tenet of Islam: everything one has belongs to
God and therefore a Muslim is obliged to share wealth with those less
fortunate. The one neat thing about giving is that it's win-win situation, the
recipient, and the giver both benefit in different way.
AMOUNT OF CHARITY

 Spending in charity does not apply only to the rich, but rather every one can
participate with whatever wealth, clothes, food or knowledge they have.
 Abu Dawad and Al- Hakim reported that Abu Hurairah once asked the
Messenger of Allah “What type of charity is better?” The Messenger replied
“ That given by someone who is not wealthy, and start with your dependents
first”
GIVING CHARITY IN SECRET

 The Prophet Mohammad said that one of the seven groups of people that will be
granted shade on the Day of Judgment includes the one who gives charity but hides it,
so that even his left hand does not know what his right hand has spent.
 Giving charity in secret is best when giving charity that is voluntary (Sadaqah).
Regarding voluntary charity, Allah says in the second chapter of the Quran:
 “If you disclose your Sadaqaat (almsgiving), it is well; but if you conceal them and
give them to the poor, that is better for you.” [Quran 2:271]

 Giving charity publicly—as long as the giver knows his intentions are not to show off
or be boastful, and can donate charity in a modest way—sets a good example to the
community. It encourages others to follow in the giver’s footsteps and give charity, too.
 Giving charity publicly is best when giving obligatory charity (Zakat). Scholars agree
that doing obligatory acts in Islam is best done openly and announced, so as to
encourage others to fulfill their duties as well.

 Among the good qualities that pertain to charity is that one should be kind and
easy with those who ask him for help, saying good and gracious words to them
and helping them I a way that is better.
 Abul- Khair used to give charity everyday, even if it was a cake or an onion.
They used to give away charity form whatever they can find, knowing
whatever they have will be finished but the charity will remain and its reward
assured.
THE PROPHET ENCOURAGED WOMEN TO GIVE CHARITY

 When a woman gives in charity some of the food stuff ( which she has in her home)
without spoiling it, she will receive the reward for what she has spent. And her
husband will receive the reward because of his earning, and the store keeper will also
have a reward similar to it. The reward of one will not decrease the reward of others.
 Allah encouraged all Muslims, men and woman, to give charity and promised great
reward from Him, and He is the Most Generous, Most Compassionate.
 The Messenger of Allah said:
“O woman! Give charity, even from your jewelry.”
SUGGESTIONS FOR GIVING CHARITY
 Donate your time. Volunteering your time at soup kitchens or non-for-profits is a great form of Zakat.
Try to volunteer your fundraising/publicity/planning services at your local Masjid’s events.
 Donate Food. Maybe you’ve got non-perishables in the pantry or cupboards. There’s always a food
drive or an organization looking to help the hungry
 Donate Clothes. Just like the food drives, there’s almost always a clothing drive. The Salvation Army
and Goodwill also accept clothes and distribute them to the homeless.
 Encourage others to do good. The Prophet said to enjoin good deeds; encourage friends, family
members and neighbors to join you at the soup kitchen or food pantry.
 Smile. Whether or not you have anything else to give, remember that the Prophet (PBUH) said, “Your
smile for your brother is charity.”
