Composer and author of over 100
songs and 50 instrumental works,
Volodymyr Ivasiuk is considered one
of the founders of Ukrainian pop
music. He is the author of the songs
"Chervona Ruta", "Vodogray" and
"The Cranes Flew Away", which were
highly appreciated not only during his
lifetime, but also today.
In April 1979, Volodymyr Ivasiuk
left the house and did not return.
Later, his body was found in the
Bryukhovytsia forest near Lviv.
According to the official version of
the Soviet authorities, it was
suicide, but the investigations
carried out in independent Ukraine
indicated that he was killed by the
KGB.
Modern Ukrainian composer,
Knight of the Order of Princess
Olga and Corresponding Member
of the Academy of Arts of
Ukraine, Lesya Dychko, created
the cantata "Red Viburnum", a
landmark in the history of
Ukrainian music. According to
the recollections of eyewitnesses,
after its premiere, the audience
showered the stage with flowers
and bunches of viburnum, and the
ovation did not subside for a long
time.
Solomiya Krushelnytska's great-nephew
was also musically gifted and reached
heights in this field. The composer
received the title of Hero of Ukraine and
the "National Legend of Ukraine" award.
Works by Myroslav Skoryk sound in
Serhiy Parajanov's film "Shadows of
Forgotten Ancestors".
Today, his compositions are
performed not only in
Ukraine, but also in France,
Germany, Great Britain, the
Czech Republic, Austria,
Poland, the USA, Canada and
Australia.
