SO LOVE IS A MYSTERY…BUT IS IT?
Love has existed since the beginning of time, since Adam and Eve. But what happens exactly when people
fall in love? We know the heart beats faster and we feel excited, but why?
Now, researchers have learnt that chemicals play an important part when people “fall in love”. They have
found that the heart beats faster because there is more Dopanime and Norepinephrine in the body.
Dopamine and Norepinephrine are “pleasure chemicals” because they give us a feeling of happiness and
excitement.
Researchers discovered that because of these “love chemicals”, we sleep for fewer hours and lose our
appetite; but the chemicals also make us more energetic and attentive – they even improve our memory!
In other words, people in love think a lot about the relationship and remember everything about the loved
one.
But how long do these feelings last? Some couples have dated since they were teenagers and they haven’t
had a row for years. And then…what happens when that wonderful feeling has gone? Why do people fall
out of love?
Studies have shown that even real passionate love disappears quickly and may disappear completely after
two or three years. At first , when we split up, we want our partner even more, but then gradually we get
over it. Why? The unromantic answer? The chemicals behind that loving feeling decrease as time goes by.
