Cat Breeds

Ahmad Al-Majali, DVM, PhD

1
Egyptian Mau
 Egyptian Mau is the only
natural domesticated breed
of spotted cat.
 The Egyptian's impression
should be one of an active,
colorful cat of medium size
with well developed
muscles. Perfect physical
condition with an alert
appearance.
 Well balanced physically
and temperamentally. Males
tend to be larger than
females.

2
Persian
 Persian should present an
impression of a heavily
boned, well-balanced cat
with a sweet expression and
soft, round lines. The large
round eyes set wide apart in
a large round head contribute
to the overall look and
expression. The long thick
coat softens the lines of the
cat and accentuates the
roundness in appearance.

3
 Famous for their placid, gentle
temperament.
 Persians are quiet and
affectionate and have an ability
to adapt to any environment.
 Do not appreciate being teased
or having their hair pulled and
are probably more suitable to
adult households or those with
gentle children.
 The Persian is particularly well
suited as a house or apartment
cat and being an indoor cat
also helps to keep its coat in
optimum condition.
4
American Curl
 Curls are well balanced,
moderately muscled,
slender rather than
massive in build.
 Females weigh 5 to 8
pounds, males weigh 7 to
10 pounds.
 Proper proportion and
balance are more
important than size.
 They are alert, active, with
gentle, even dispositions.

6
Birman
 The Birman is a color
pointed cat with long
silky hair and four pure
white feet. It is strongly
built, elongated and
stocky
 The distinctive head has
strong jaws, firm chin
and medium length
Roman nose.

8
Bombay
 A hybrid between the
Burmese and the
American Shorthair.
 The Bombay is a
medium-size cat,
well-balanced,
friendly, alert, and
outgoing; muscular
and having a
surprising weight for
its size.
9
Siamese
 The ideal Siamese
is a medium sized,
svelte, refined cat
with long tapering
lines, very lithe but
muscular.
 Males may be
proportionately
larger.
 Ears strikingly
large, pointed,
wide at base
