Love Rejoices in

Spiritual Growth
1 Corinthians 13:4-7, Ephesians 4:1-16
1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not
boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not
self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of
wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the
truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes,
always perseveres.
What is love?
Love is an immense feeling of affection. It is when you
care a lot about someone or something. It makes you feel
happy, warm, and connected. You want to be with that
person or thing and make them happy too. It's like having a
special bond that makes life better.
Why is love so
important to us as
Christians?
1 John 4:8
”Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from
God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and
knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God,
because God is love”
Our lives are to be lived modelling Christ(God)-Ephesians
5:1-2, 1 Corinthians 11:1

The Bible teaches us that God is love, in fact, it states that

anyone who does not love does not know God. 1John 4:8

1Corinthians 13:1 stresses the importance of love above all

things and verse 13 of the same chapter does the same.
The greatest
example of love
was given by
God
John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only
son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have
eternal life.
What then does it
mean to love
someone?
To love is to be willing
to sacrifice
John3:16
2 Corinthians 8:9
“For you know the grace of our Lord jesus
Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your
sake, he became poor, so that you through
his poverty might become rich.”
To love is to forgive
Ephesians 4:26
Ephesians 4:15

“In your anger do not sin: Do not let the sun

go down while you are still angry, and do
not give the devil a foothold”
How then is love
connected to spiritual
growth?
Ephesians 4:26-27

“Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will

grow to become in every respect the mature
body of him who is the head, that is Christ”
1 Thessalonians 5:11

“Therefore, encourage one another and

build each other up, just as in fact you are
doing”
We have a
responsibility to
invest in our own
growth and that of
others
Mark 9:42

“If anyone causes one of these little ones-those

who believe in me- to sumble, i would be better
for them if a large millstone were hung around
their neck and they were thrown into the sea”
Conclusion
1 Corinthians 13:4-7, Ephesians 4:1-16
