Friction and Tapotement

manipulation
Kinnel Parmar
Friction manipulation
 Small range oscillatory movement
 With thumb or fingers
 Direction of movement
1. Circular friction
2. Transverse friction
Circular friction
 Finger tips
 Local area
 Pressure increase with 3 to 4 circle
 No relaxation till that
Transverse friction
 Thumb tip/finger tip
 Transverse direction
 Local small area
 Muscle origin/insertion
 Tendons
 Fibrosis
Tapotement manipulation
 Striking 2 objects with each other
 Soft blows with hands
 Evacuate hollow organs
 Stimulate skin and muscle
Different techniiques

1. Clapping
2. Hacking
3. Vibrations
4. Beating
5. Pounding
6. Tapping
Clapping
 Slight cupped hands
 Centre of hand doesn’t come in contact
 Cover area with thin sheet
 Not painful
 Respiratory condition
 Avoid in heart condition
Hacking
 Last three fingers – ulnar side
 Supination and pronation of forearm
 Ulnar and radial deviation
 No elbow movement
 10 strike/5 sec to 20-30 strike/5sec
 Relaxation of part
 Skin circulation
 Skin erythema
Vibration
 Not shaking
 Tissues are pressed in down
 Release it up motion
 Given by hands or fingers
 Elbow extension
 One hand on another
 With isometric contraction of muscles
 Vibrate part
 Useful to remove secretions
Beating
 Loosely clenched fist
 Anterior aspect of fist strike
 Alternate flexion-extension of wrist
 No elbow movement
Pounding
 Loosely clenched fist
 Lateral aspect of fist strike first
 Supination and pronation of forearm
 Ulnar and radial deviation of wrist
 Relaxation
 Slower than hacking
Tapping
 Tips of finger
 Small area
 Index, middle, ring finger
 Together or in sequence
 Tap on area
 Relaxtion
