Any living thing that lives and
moves but is not a human are
termed as “ANIMALS”

ACTIVITY TIME
Write down the names of vertebrates and the group name from which they belong.

BONES MUSCLES
• All vertebrates have bones that • Muscles are attached to
join together to make a the bones
skeleton. • It supports the body in
• It gives shape to the body its movement
• It protects the soft internal
organs of the body

MAJOR ORGANS iN VERTEBRATES
Vertebrates have important internal organs that have their own function

MAJOR SYSTEMS iN VERTEBRATES
Vertebrates have different body systems that work together to carry out
different functions which keeps us alive and healthy

THE SKELETON SYSTEM

• The skeletal system is made up of bones , that are
joined to form a framework known as the skeleton.

• This system helps to give shape and support to the

body.

• Skull , Rib cage, backbone and limbs are the main parts
of the skeletal system.

different functions which keeps us alive and healthy

THE MUSCULAR SYSTEM

• The system that help us to move is known as Muscular
System.

• The bones are joined to the muscles.

• Muscles are stretchy bands of tissues.

• Muscles work together which help the body to move.

• There are more than 600 muscles in human body.

• Our facial expression are also control by muscles

Vertebrates have different body systems that work together to carry out
different functions which keeps us alive and healthy

THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM

• Process by which food is broken down into simple useful

substances that can be used by our body to get energy
is called digestion.

• Digestive System is made up of different organs such

as mouth ,food pipe, stomach ,small intestine large
intestine and anus.

• Digestive system help the food to digest so that we

may get energy to work and play.

THE CIRCULATORY SYSTEM

• The heart , blood and blood vessels make up the
circulatory system of the body .

• The heart is made up of muscles which helps to pump

the blood.

• Blood carries nutrients and gases like oxygen and

carbon dioxide to different parts of the body through
tiny tubes called blood vessels.

THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM

• The main organs are nose, the wind pipe and lungs
make up the respiratory system of the body.

• We breathe with the help of respiratory system. We

breath in air through our nose or mouth. Air goes down
through windpipe and reaches the lungs.

• The air which we breathe in called inhaled air while the

air which we breathe out is called exhaled air.
iNVERTEBRATES
● Invertebrates are animals without a backbone.

● Some of them have skeletons outside their bodies.

Such skeletons are called exoskeleton.

●Insects are the largest group of animals that have

an exoskeleton.

DID YOU KNOW?

The Giant Squid is

an invertebrate,
and it can grow to
A length of 65
feet (20 meters).
INSECTS
• They are small animals with six except spider as it have eight legs

• There body is divided into three segments

1. Head
2. Thorax
3. Abdomen

• Most insects fly and they have two or four wings

ACTIVITY TIME
