Literature Review
 LPG REFRIGERATOR

03 •
-Zelieus Namirian | RAC (Refrigeration and Air Conditioning) | DEC 2019

The aim was to use LPG as a refrigerant, harnessing the energy from
high-pressure LPG cylinders for cooling.
• The pressure of LPG reduced from 12.41 bar to 1.41 bar using a capillary
tube, but using a low-pressure regulator would yield different results.
• The refrigerating effect was calculated based on changes in LPG
properties, yielding a COP of 5.08 using energy input from the refilling
plant.
Literature Review
 Experimental investigation and parameter analysis
of LPG refrigeration system using Taguchi method
-S. Boopathi , Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2019

03 • The study employed the Taguchi design of experiments to determine the

optimal operating parameters for the eco-friendly LPG refrigerator, with a
specific focus on the evaporator temperature.
• The investigation examined the effects of capillary tube internal diameter
and length, as well as operating time, on the evaporator temperature.
• It was observed that a moderate inner diameter (0.9 mm) of the capillary
tube led to a significant drop in evaporator temperature. This result was
attributed to sufficient pressure drop with minimal frictional losses in the
tube.
Literature Review
• Coil Diameter Influence: Increasing the coil diameter of the capillary tube
was found to enhance the temperature drop of the evaporator. This effect

03
was linked to the longer travel of LPG in proportion to pressure drops.
• The study revealed that extending the system's operating time resulted
in improved evaporator cooling rates, as it led to increased fluid
consumption. Fluid consumption was directly proportional to the
system's operating time, ultimately contributing to better cooling in the
evaporator.
• These findings suggest that selecting specific process parameters can
significantly enhance the cooling performance of the eco-friendly LPG
refrigerator.

Conclusion
04
• The aim of the LPG refrigerator was to use
LPG as a refrigerant and utilizing the energy
of the high-pressure LPG cylinder for
producing the refrigerating effect.
• This system most suitable for hotel,
industries, refinery, chemical industries
where consumption of LPG is very high.
