The Use of Bahasa Inggris Untuk Anak

Application for Beginners to Learn English

Abstract
Bahasa Inggris Untuk Anak is one of the modern applications that facilitate beginners to learn English
vocabulary by using four language skills such as listening, reading, writing, and speaking. Despite the fact that
the application's name suggests that it is intended for children, researchers believe that young adults who are just
starting out could benefit from it because the themes are neat and well-organized. This research aims to observe if
the application could gain the vocabulary of beginner English learners. The researchers would like to know the
users’ application opinions about the advantages and disadvantages of the Bahasa Inggris Untuk Anak
Application after they tried to use it and whether they would interest to keep using this application or as the
media to learn English vocabulary. This study used qualitative method. The participants of this research were
twelve people on their 20s’ which nine of them are female and three of them are male randomly from various
occasions such as young workers and college students. The data in this research used questionnaire, experiment,
and observation. Do users would continue to use the Bahasa Inggris Untuk Anak Application after they knew the
advantages and disadvantages of the application to train their vocabulary ability? In fact, it indicated that this
application is useful for beginners to learn English vocabulary gradually.

Introduction
English is one of the world's most widely used languages for a
variety of reasons. In many places of the world, English has the
potential to become the dominant language in education and
industry. Learning to speak and write English proficiently is seen
as a valuable talent (Massri, 2020). English is important for us to
get more information from around the world through books,
websites, and more content from various platforms exist that
written or made from another country. Since Indonesia considers
English as a foreign language, we need to learn harder because
we do not know much and do not use it daily in our activities
before. Now, English subject becomes one of subjects at school.
Besides learn English at school, we could learn it through digital
sources such as an online learning application. When beginners
would like to learn English, it should be started from basic level.
The first thing that would be learnt is usually vocabulary. An
online vocabulary learning application made us easier to learn
English whenever and wherever we are practically.

Language
Language is thought of as a system, which is made up of fixed and patternable components. In addition to systematic language,
systems are also systemic. Systematic meaning, words organized in a certain way, not arranged at random or arbitrarily. While
systematic implies that a language is a single system, it actually consists of several subsystems that differ from one another. The
phonology, morphology, syntax, and lexicon make up the language subsystem.

English language
Our primary means of communication is language. It is the means by which we communicate our ideas and thoughts to others. The
earth is home to thousands of languages. Every country has its own national language, as well as a number of regional languages
spoken and understood by its people. Some languages have millions of speakers, while others have only a few thousand. Because
English is the most widely spoken language in the world, its significance cannot be dismissed or ignored. English is one of the most
widely spoken languages on the planet. Many people can speak and comprehend English even outside of countries such as the United
States and the United Kingdom. English is spoken by an estimated 1 billion people globally, including those who speak it as a second
language. In addition, 67 countries have English as their official language, and 27 have English as their secondary official language
(Ilyosovna, 2020). English is the most widely studied foreign language in Indonesia. English is the global language, and it is essential
for people to communicate and integrate into society.(Nguyen, 2019).

Learning is one of the crucial things for everyone. Learning English as a foreign language allows you to fully appreciate a
country's culture and context; it broadens your comprehension. Understanding a person's culture, for example, can help you
avoid circumstances that could lead to misunderstandings (Mahu, 2012). Since English has been an academic topic at university,
it is studied not only by students from the English Language Education Department, but also by students from the non-English
Language Education Department. In other words, the English language is the academic subject that non-English Language
Education Department students must learn. pupils who are not from the English Language Education Department are classified
as non-English Language Department pupils. This implies that English is employed in academic practices as well as the teaching
and learning process. Students in the Non-English Language Department study not only vocabulary but also complicated
grammatical structure and discourse pattern, both of which aid incoherent and cohesive communication. Grammatical structure
and speech pattern, both of which help with communication incoherence and cohesion (Suryanto & Sari, 2021).

Vocabulary
Vocabulary could be the first material or skill to learn. Vocabulary can be broadly defined as the knowledge of words and their
meanings. Someone another might define vocabulary as a set of words in alphabetical order with definitions. One of the most
difficult problems that students will face throughout their education is learning vocabulary. Among all language skills,
vocabulary acquisition is as important as it is difficult (Alizadeh, 2016).

Mobile applications are software/programs that operate on a mobile device and perform specific activities for the user. Mobile
applications are a new and rapidly expanding segment of the worldwide information and communication technology industry. Mobile
applications are simple, user-friendly, inexpensive, downloadable, and run on the majority of mobile phones, including low-cost and
entry-level phones (Islam, Islam, & Mazumder, 2010).

Bahasa Inggris Untuk Anak Application


Bahasa Inggris Untuk Anak application are the education application that is only available in Playstore and it dedicated for Android
user. This application has 4,6 stars rate and already downloaded by 122k users. It could use for beginners even started from the age of
three. The developer is LangsForKids. The application is free to download and use. However, if we would like to have more topics like
verbs, time, prepositions, games, transportation, musical instruments, insects, sea animal, animals 2, and birds 2, we could pay Rp.
27.000,- + tax to access more topics. Meanwhile, to remove ads, we could pay for Rp. 42.000,- + tax. Moreover, to remove ads and
have more topic, there is package price Rp. 50.000,-. Besides the Bahasa Inggris Untuk Anak application, the develop also have similar
applications such as English story, Arabic story, Italian for Kids, Turkish for Kids, Portugis Untuk Anak-Anak, Bahasa Arab Untuk Anak-
Anak, Bahasa Perancis Untuk Anak, Bahasa Rusia Untuk Anak, Bahasa Jerman Untuk Anak, dan Bahasa Spanyol Untuk Anak.
Methodology
The qualitative technique was applied in this study. The participants in this study were twelve
adults in their twenties, nine of whom were female and three of whom were male, chosen at
random from varied situations such as young employees and college students. There are 25%
from the English department, 16.7% from the young employees, and 8.3% from each of the
following majors: Sains Education, Islamic Education, Management, Computer Science,
Communication Science, Al-Qur'an Tafsir Science, and Administration. The data in this study
employed questionnaires, experiment, and observation to achieve triangulation and verify the
integrity and validity of the data. The data was gathered through the distribution of an online
questionnaire, monitoring of all processes that occurred, and an experiment in which
respondents were asked to download and utilize the program. For the data analysis, the data
acquired from the source that evaluated synchronously. Statements regarding the program and
their experience using it, the contents in the application, primacies, performance, and
difficulties of the application are appropriate for this purpose.

Result and Discussion
By asking how important for them to know the basic of English vocabulary,
the respondents 100% believe that learning basic English vocabulary is very
important because by having a broad vocabulary, we are able to understand
word by word, sentence by sentence, and paragraph by paragraph. By
mastering the basic English vocabulary, we can more easily learn the next
stage in learning English. Moreover, in the current era of digital
globalization, English is a connector for people around the world. Then,
English is important if we meet foreigners in our area or when we are
abroad. Last but not least, it is crucial when we would like to listen, read, or
watch contents from other countries that do not provide Indonesian
translations.
Result and Discussion
There are 66,7% participants who downloaded and tried Bahasa Inggris Untuk Anak application.
There are 90% of participants enjoy the application. The abilities the participants got from the
application, about 83,3% is vocabulary, 58,3% is listening and speaking, then 50% of writing and
reading. There are 91,67% respondents agree that Bahasa Inggris Untuk Anak application
improves their English ability because there are new vocabularies for them in the application
that easy to understand which make their vocabularies gained. There are 66,7% improvement of
vocabulary, 58,3% speaking, 50% reading, and 41,7% of listening and writing.

Bahasa Inggris Untuk Anak application is able to motivate 100% respondents to learn English
because its interesting visual, the material starts from the most basic level, the digital format is
easy to access, learning English could be anywhere and anytime. The advantages of Bahasa
Inggris Untuk Anak application are easy to understand, easy to access and use, lots of vocabulary
available and a variety of features that are fun to use. This application is like playing a game that
makes children are not bored to learn English vocabulary. For the application disadvantages, the
respondents hope that the view of the application could be more attractive, the contents is more
complete, and to reduce advertisements. Furthermore, there are 41,7% participants would like
to continue using this application and perhaps for another 58,3%. According to the participants
responds, there are 25% rate for 3 scale, 41,7% scale of 4, and 33,3% for the scale of 5 for the
system quality and also for the material or content quality of the application.
Result and Discussion
After view the result of the questionnaire responds, we could say that learning English is crucial for many people
around the world especially for the Z generation (born in 1997-2012) in Indonesia. Young adults start to learn
English and use it for their education and work life. To learn English, we could start from learn the vocabulary
first. The alphabet, numbers, colors, shapes, family, body parts, days of the week, months of the year, fruits,
vegetables, animals, food, clothes, kitchen, bathroom, living room, bedroom, schools, sports, and professions are
all covered in the basic vocabulary resources. Young adults could use Bahasa Inggris Untuk Anak application to
learn vocabulary. To learn English nowadays, we also could use smartphone because it provides many good
learning applications that is more practical for us to learn English vocabulary anytime and anywhere. Even
though the name of the application is for kids, researcher thought that young adult as beginner could also use
this application because this application’s topics are neat and organized. The result indicated that people in their
20’s already knew the basic vocabulary of English and even if they are not English major students, they are
interested to learn English by themselves. Bahasa Inggris Untuk Anak application suitable for beginners and
children who would like to learn English vocabulary independently through technology media.
Conclusion
After doing the investigation, the researcher came to the
conclusion that understanding English is crucial for many
individuals all around the world. Young adults begin to study and
utilize English at school and at work. We might start learning
English by first knowing the terminology. To acquire vocabulary,
young adults could utilize the Bahasa Inggris Untuk Anak
application. To learn English nowadays, we might also use a
smartphone because it has many effective learning programs
that make it more convenient for us to learn English vocabulary
at any time and from any location. Despite the fact that the
application's name suggests that it is intended for children,
researchers believe that young adults who are just starting out
could benefit from it because the themes are neat and well-
organized.
Suggestion

With this paper, the researcher hopes that it could be


beneficial for all of you as one of the references when
readers would like to conduct an observation related to
this research. To readers, the researcher hopes that
readers could get a positive information from this paper
and the author could improve her experience in the
observation field and writing skills.
