today convey their point of view in
front of everyone through print
media, mass media, and social
media.
MEDIA LITERACY
• The ability to access, analyze, evaluate and
communication a variety of media messages.
• It is an expanded information and communication
skill that is responsive to the changing nature of
information in our society.
• In terms of Media Literacy in classroom, it engage
students to provide a multiple learning styles appeal
to visual, auditory and kinesthetic students.
• The development of greater enjoyment,
understanding and appreciation of media content
• the ability to create effective and responsible media

• Media literacy is essential because it helps
people understand the messages that are
being communicated to them.
• It helps to understand how media works
• Teachers can help students analyze whether
the information is supported by relevant
arguments and proofs.
• It provides tools to help people develop
receptive media capability to critically analyze
messages, offers opportunities for learners to
broaden their experience of media, and helps
them develop generative media capability to
increase creative skills in making their own
media messages.
• It can help people recognize biases in the
media and how they may affect their
perception of an event or issue.
• It can also be used to learn about new ideas,
cultures, and perspectives that may not have
been previously considered.
• We can use the media we consume to inform
ourselves about what’s happening in our nation
and world.
• It helps students to analyze the accuracy of a
piece of information.
• It would help them in widening their
knowledge and understanding and also their
perceptions of a variety of issues.
• Is an important skill to have in today’s world. It
enables us to identify false information and
propaganda, so we can make informed
decisions about what media messages we
should or shouldn’t believe.

 ADVANTAGE IN MEDIA LITERACY
• It educates people. Through television and radio
programs, people get to learn about health matters,
environmental conservation, and much more.
• People get the latest news in a very short time. Distance
is not a barrier. People get news daily through the media
and this keeps them updated on the happenings around
the world.
• People get to bring out their hidden talents. Through
media showcase their talents such as comedy, acting
and singing.
• Children’s knowledge increases. Children can learn
from quiz programs, animal programs and so on.
• Radio is convenient as people do get short news and
with a mobile phone one can access it.
 DISADVANTAGE IN MEDIA LITERACY
• It leads to individualism. People spend too much
time on the internet and watching television. As a
result, socialization with friends, family and
neighbors is affected.
• Some media contents are not suitable
for children. Limiting children’s
access to such content can be
difficult.
• Internet as a form of media opens up
possibilities of imposters, fraud and
hacking.
• It glamorize drugs and alcohol. Some
programs make the use of these things
appear cool’.
• Health problems. Prolonged watching of
television can lead to eyesight problems and
radio listening using earphones exposes one
to possible hearing defects.
• It can lead to ruin of reputation. It is possible
for one to create an anonymous account. Such
accounts can be used to for malicious reasons
such as spreading rumors. This can lead to
ruin of reputation of an individual or a
company.
