Method for Teaching
Science

OBJECTIVES

•Develop an understanding of
different method of teaching
Science.
•Compare and Contrast the
methods of Teaching Science.
METHOD
•Is a process, procedure, or a step by step
scientific way of presenting a subject
matter.
•It is a formal structure of the sequence of
acts.

METHODS OF
TEACHING SCIENCE
•LECTURE-CUM-DISCUSSION
METHOD
• LABORATORY METHOD
•OBSERVATION METHOD
•PROJECT METHOD
•PROBLEM SOLVING METHOD
LECTURE-CUM DISCUSSION

The lecture-cum-discussion method involves

the teacher delivering a lecture and then
allowing 10 minutes for discussion between
the teacher and students. This allows
students to clarify questions and helps assess
their understanding.
LABORATORY METHOD

This method in commonly

thought of as a hands on and
minds on approach to teach
science where in students have the
opportunity to gain some
experience.
OBSERVATION METHOD
In this method, the student observes and
acquires knowledge. Through we
cannot call this as a specific method of
science teaching but as a matter of fact
almost all science begins with
observation.
PROJECT METHOD
• This method was propounded by W.H
Kilpatrick. And was perfected by J.A
Sternson.
• This method emphasizes on building a
comprehensive unit around an activity which
may be carried out in school or outside.
• A project is a purposeful activity and planned
activity which is achieved in social, natural
situations created in schools.
PROBLEM SOLVING
METHOD
The problem solving method of teaching
is a popular approach to learning that
allows students to understand new
concepts by doing. This approach
provides students with examples and real-
world situations, so they can see how the
theory behind a concept or skill works in
practice.
