LAYERS OF THE EARTH
CRUST
- Is a land that we walk
- Consists of different kinds of rocks and
soil.
- X3 thicker than the crust under the
ocean.
- Extends to about 25 miles.
- Occupies less than 1% of earth volume.

Mantle
- Crust floats on this layer.
- Made of thick solid and rocky
substance.
- Amounts of 85% of total mass of
Earth.
- First 50 mile of the mantle consist of
very hard, rigid rocks.

- The next 150 miles are made up of
super-hot solid rocks.
- The next several hundred miles is
believe to be made up of very solid and
sturdy rock materials.
- About 1800 miles thick and by far the
largest layer of Earth.

Outer Core
- Made up of super-hot liquid molten
substance called lava.
- (Lava believe to be made of iron and
nickel).
- Extends to a depth of 300 miles beneath
the Earth’s surface.

Inner Core
- Extends another 900 miles towards the
center of the Earth.
- Believe that the inner core is a solid ball
made of iron and nickel.
- Hottest part of the Earth.
- As hot as the surface of the Sun.
