Dream College Project

Carleigh Scott
Personal Admission Statement
My goals in college are to complete a bachelor's degree at one of the following colleges
NYU, School of Visual Arts, University Miami, and California College of the Arts. I
would love to go to anyone of these colleges because they all have a fantastic photography
programs and majors/classes. If I were to go to one of these schools I would like to major
in photography or something of those sorts. My career goals are to be a travel
photographer so that I can capture mother nature's beautiful landscapes. Another reason I
would like to become a photographer is because I love to travel and I like working one on
one with people rather than a big group.
Why this job?
I have gone through the whole list of jobs and believe this is the right one for me. Through
wanting to be a veterinarian or teacher in first grade to wanting to be a surgeon or flight
attendant as a freshmen. When I found out about photography I instantly loved it. One
reason being I want to travel the world and see everything. Another reason being I don’t
want to go through that much schooling as a doctor would and would rather work one on
one with people rather in a big group.
What do photographers do?
There are different types of photographers; some take pictures of people, weddings,
houses, sports, babies etc. however the one I am interested in is landscape photography. A
landscape photographer takes photos of nature with a particular focus on landscapes. You
use a camera to capture a natural scene or an image of the world around you. You work on
location, so depending on the images and the landscape, you may be required to travel.
Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities
Photographers need to be able to communicate, be very creative, capture contrast,
composition, and numerous artistic skills. They also need to understand exposure,
aperture, focus, and other technical aspects. Along with learning to shoot, a few basic
post-processing techniques can elevate photos to a whole new level.
Education and Training
Entry-level positions in photojournalism or in industrial or scientific photography
generally require a college degree in photography or in a field related to the industry in
which the photographer seeks employment. For example, classes in biology, medicine, or
chemistry may be important for scientific photographers.
Salary range & Outlook
The outlook for open spots for photographers is projected to grow 4% from 2022-2032.
There is about 13,900 openings for photographers each year. Photographers salary ranges
from $63,000- $83,000 with the average at $71,000. They usually make around $13-27 per
hour.

Why U Miami?
The reason I chose U Miami is because they are in the top 25 schools over the country for
their film and photography programs. I also like this school because of its location, I love
that it’s warmer year round and close to the beaches. One last reason I chose this school
over the other school that I listed is because it is cheaper to live here than in New York.
