Relevance
• Problems faced by Kampung Peneleh: the establishment
of Kampung Peneleh Surabaya as a heritage destination by
the city government creates the need to empower the
kampung inhabitants
• Objectives: to develop the capability of kampung
community to enliven Kampung Peneleh’s tourism,
preserve local culture, and improve the Kampung’s
economy.
• Targets: Children, Students, Family Welfare Programs
(PKK), Community-based Tourism Awareness (Pokdarwis),
Neighborhood Officials, Peneleh Mosque Keepers
Surabaya Map Through Ages
Kampung Peneleh
• A historical and multicultural kampung in Surabaya which
has existed since 16th – 17th century
• Adjacent to Kalimas River, part of Brantas River which
connected Surabaya to Majapahit Kingdom in the 14th
century
• Possessing several historical sites which reflect the
genealogy of Surabaya’s cultural dynamic throughout the
time

• Local teenagers are empowered as a community-based tourism awareness
(POKDARWIS)
• Local inhabitants participate in creating kampung maps, sketches, and preserving
kampung documentation
• Integrated with university courses (Historiopreneurship, Local History, History
Visualization, Media and Urban Community)
• Peneleh’s cultural and heritage preservation by the local inhabitants
• The community are empowered and ready to establish Kampung Peneleh as a
heritage destination.

Project Sustainability

• The project is programmed until 2026 with the support of Faculty of


Humanities Universitas AirIangga, SEANNET, Universitas Negeri Surabaya,
and Surabaya City Government
• Educating the key person in Peneleh to continue the empowerment program
through members of the Family Welfare Programs in culinary, neighborhood
officials in preserving local culture and history, and POKDARWIS in kampung
tourism
• Establishing Peneleh as a community empowered by academic communities.
