好几个做生意的亲戚。每个人都
能说出不少“人生的低谷”的故
事，或者是做了半辈子的餐饮店，
越来越难以撑下去；或是刚开的
白酒加盟店（ liquor
franchisee ），拓展市场是如何
的艰难。

compared to theirs. Anxieties may be hard to go

much choice, understand they should carry on
through “life’s lows”, even though there were no
words of encouragement.

受也是如此。雷军熬的鸡汤味道固然
不错，有了自身真实案例的支撑，哪
怕是一些大白话，也有着不一样的励
志和说服力。可是雷军的这些故事，
离普通人的人生其实很远，他的那些
所谓的挫折、低谷，相比于现在的巨
大成功，简直不值一提。

受也是如此。雷军熬的鸡汤味道固然
不错，有了自身真实案例的支撑，哪
怕 (even though) 是一些大白话，也
有着不一样 (especially) 的励志和说
服力。可是雷军的这些故事，离普通
人的人生其实很远，他的那些所谓的
挫折 (setback) 、低谷，相比于现在
的巨大成功，简直不值一提。

I felt the same when I see the speech of Leijun,
who was the CEO of XiaoMi Group, became a
hit in social media. Lei offered some legit
stories of encouragement, even though his
words are plain and simple, the stories are
especially convincing and inspiring because
they are his own. But his life is so different with
an ordinary person’s life. His so-called setbacks
and difficulties is nothing compared with his
huge success today.

convincing, but it can also lead to a false
belief/misconception, as if the future is bright
and shine if you manage to pass the life’s lows.
But life may be lows after lows. Or, if you put
in all your effort to get past, the place you end
up may be the same as everybody else’s. It’s
just like that famous saying on the Internet:
Give all you’ve got to be an ordinary person.

entrepreneurs being “mentors of success”. They
teach people how to start a business and be
successful. The message from Lei’s speech was
more suited to today’s narrative than those
“success lessons”. Successful entrepreneurs can
have life lows too. This low-profile expression
earned Lei popularity, and also may help soothe
the anxieties of ordinary people.

但要真正理解“走出人生的低谷”的
内涵，其实恰恰是要摆脱成功光环的
影响。对普通人来说，坚持不一定能
成功，但成功一定要靠坚持，这或许
才是人生的辩证法。

lows”, it is precisely to get rid of the
influence of success. For ordinary
people, persistence may not achieve
(guarantee) success, but achieving
success need persistence. This may be
the dialectic of life.

苦无法避免，那就直面痛苦，在痛苦
中前行、在痛苦中塑造更好的我们，
这就是痛苦的意义和挫折的馈赠。”
直面痛苦，坚持走出人生的低谷，是
几乎每一个人都必须要面对的功课，
这不是因为前方必然有成功在等着，
而是很多时候“痛苦无法避免”。

inevitable, then we should face it, get through it
and let it foster better forms of ourselves. That’s

ahead waiting, it’s because for most of the time
“pain is inevitable”.

cause-and-effect relations. If one devoted enough effort, he
would certainly receive good results. But anyone with some
realistic knowledge will know that, life is not that simple.
Taking Lei as an example, his every business decision has been
adopted by somebody else. He is not the only person who
adopted those decisions. Some succeeded, some failed. It’s hard
to find the reasons. Sometimes failure can only be attributed to
bad luck.

他的整个人生经历。他是如何始终保
持着“直面痛苦”的姿势，迎接人生
和创业途中的各种风浪。普通人没法

That’s why the best Lei story of encouragement
is not one of his speeches, nor some inspiring
sentences, but his whole life experience, how he
is consistently poised to “face the pain” and all
kinds of tumultuous winds in the course of his
life and development of his company. Ordinary
people cannot guarantee success as much as
Lei, but they can get ready for pain, just as Lei
did.
