Mountains are formed through three main processes:
1) Volcanic mountains are formed through volcanic eruptions that pile lava and ash on top of itself.
2) Fold mountains are formed when tectonic plates push together, slowly folding the earth's crust into mountain ranges like the Himalayas.
3) Fault block mountains occur when plates move apart, creating faults where large rock blocks are pushed up vertically to form mountains like plateau mountains.

1-Fujiyama-Japan 2-Mount Taranaki-New Zealand 3-Mount Kenya –Africa • Most of them are found in long chains called mountain ranges 1-The Alps-Europe 2-Himalaya -Asia 3-Rocky –North America How are mountains formed? 1-Volcanic mountain. 2-Fold mountains. 3-Block mountains. Volcanic mountains • Volcanic mountains form when molten rock from deep inside the Earth erupts through the crust and piles up on itself. Fold mountains • When two plates push each other the earth crust is slowly pushed in fold which form fold mountains. • India used to be long way from Asia , but slowly the plate with India on it moved closer to the plate Asia on it .The rocks in the sea between India and Asia Re pushed up to form the Himalaya mountain. Fault and block mountains • While some plates are pushing together, others are moving apart . As for example Europe and north America are slowly moving apart each year . • As the rocks move apart the often create cracks and breaks called faults . • Sometimes large blocks of rockare pushed up between two faults ,these blocks are may be so large and high that they form a mountain. • Block mountain usually have flat tops.Flat-topped mountains are called plateau.
