 Objective

Distinguish the use of different prepositions.

 When to Use the Preposition "In"
● With months of the year. Example: I was born in April.

● With seasons. Example: He enjoys playing video games in summer.

● With town names, cities or countries. Example: The company is in Canada.

● With times of the day. Example: I wake up early in the morning.

Important exception!
Use “at” with night:
Example: He likes to go out at night.
 When to Use the Preposition "On"

● Use "on" with specific days of the week or year:

Examples:
- We'll meet on Friday.
- What do you do on New Year's Day?
- He played basketball on March 5th.

● American English - "on the weekend OR on weekends"

 When to Use "At"
● Use "at" with specific times of the day:
Examples:
- Let's meet at 7 o'clock.
- He has a meeting at 6:15.
● Use "at" with specific places in a city:
- She went to a party at night.
Examples:
- We met at school.
- Let's meet him at the restaurant.
- He works at a hospital.

⮚ British English - "at the weekend OR at weekends"

 When to Use the Preposition "To"

● Use "to" with verbs which show movement such as go and

come.
Examples:
- He goes to school.
- She returned to the store.
- They are coming to the party tonight.
 When to Use the Preposition “into"

● To indicate the direction.

Example: Speak clearly into the microphone.

● When speaking about things of interest.

Example: I am into playing video games.

● To a point during a period of time.

Example: She carried on working late into the night.

● Used to show a change in state.

Example: They came into power in 2008.

 When to Use the Preposition “out of"

● Meaning taking out, or to be out of something.

Example: He took a coin out of his pocket.

● Expressing leaving some place.

Example: She came out of the shop.

● Indicating the use of certain materials.

Example: It's made out of iron.
