4.1. ISSUE INTRODUCTION & ANALYSIS


The work of a translator consists of inputting data consistent of the source language (SL) into the target
language (TL) in fitting manner. It has to match the SL’s meaning, tone, and style.
(Sujannah, 2017)

There is no such thing as an all-knowing translator


The translator’s experience is an increasing curve that goes up along with the time they have spent
working in the business (Thelen et al., 2016).

Technical translation relies on accuracy and sameness between the languages, rather than using emotional,
or meaningful synonyms that can replace phrases or idioms.

Civil service forms, banking statements and similar types of paperwork are formulaic - they can be
tweaked and changed data-wise, but the structure stays the same.

I was (overly) confident in my own skills - getting complacent in the workplace because my translated
products rarely encounter serious errors.

Personal strength:
• Good vocabulary, improved technique, speed and efficiency compared to previous internship
• Manage heavy workload well, able to handle pressure of deadlines
• Maintain friendly relationship with co-workers

Weaknesses:
• Late for work due to personal reasons
• Weak constitution, gets sick often
