Presentation and Discussion
 Each individuals has own informal
way of looking at our own and others
people’s development. These
paradigms of human development
while obviously lacking in scholastic
vigor, provide us with a conceptual
framework for understanding
ourselves and others.
NATURE VS NURTURE
Which has a more significant
influence on human development?
Nature or nurture?

Nature refers to an individual’s

biological inheritance.

 Nurture refers to environmental

experiences.
CONTINUOUS VS DISCONTINUOUS

• Continuous development sees

our development as a cumulative
process: Changes are gradual.
•On the other hand,
discontinuous development
sees our development as taking
place in specific steps or stages:
Changes are sudden.
QUANTITATIVE VS QUALITATIVE
•Quantitative development refers to
the changes that children will go
through as they gain knowledge and
grow larger physically.

 •Qualitative stage are changes that

are in the way that the child thinks
and behaves. It is also in how they
perceive the world as they grow
older.
• Universal development can be described as
‘where development is a matter for everyone
UNIVERSAL VS everywhere, and comparative experiences and
INDIVIDUAL
mutual learning in all directions are valued’
(Leach 2016: 6), and more simply as
‘development for all’.
•Individual development is about how children
understand themselves and what they can do.
Social development includes how children
understand themselves in relation to their
interactions with others. Providing opportunities
for your child to practice these skills is important
as they develop and grow.
STABILITY VS
PLASTICITY

Stability – implies personality

traits present during infancy
endure throughout the lifespan.

Plasticity – personalities are

modified by interactions with
family, experiences at school,
and acculturation.
ACTIVE VS
PASSIVE

Active: People are driven by

inborn instincts which are
channeled into socially
desirable outlets.

Passive: People are molded

by their environments.
Assessment/ Evaluation

The class will be divided into three (3) groups,

and each group will select one (1) issue on
human development to role-play with. In their
role play, they must present where they stand
and how it relates to their development.
