Darcy-Weisbach Equation

• Darcy-Weisbach equation is hf= f. , where hf is the head loss, f is the darcy

friction factor, D is the Diameter of the pipe, L is the pipe length, V is the
velocoity and g is the acceleration due to gravity. Darcy’s Law is used to
determine the flow of water through porous media, such as soil, and helps in
the design of drainage systems and filtration processes.
Hazen-Williams’ Equation

• J = where Q is the flow rate, C is the Hazen-Williams coefficient, L is the

Length of Pipe, D is the diameter of pipe J is the head loss. This formula is
frequently used to estimate the flow of water through pipes, providing
information for pipe sizing and water distribution system design.
Manning’s Equation

• Q = , where Q is the flow rate, n is Manning’s roughness coefficient, A is the

cross-sectional area, R is the hydraulic radius, and S is the slope of the
energy grade line. Manning’s Equation is commonly employed to calculate
the flow velocity and capacity of open channels, such as rivers, canals, and
storm water drains.

The Hazen-Williams equation is While the Darcy-Weisbach Manning’s Equation is

through pipes. Like water range of pipe flow and in calculate the flow velocity and
distribution systems different flow condition capacity of open channels, such
as rivers, canals, and storm
water drains.

The Hazen-Williams equation is The equation is more complex, The Manning’s equation is
easier to use. requiring iterative calculations easier to use.

Conclusion

• Theoratically Darcy-Weisbach Equation is more accurate as compare to

Hazen-William and Manning’s Equation because Darcy-weisbach provide
accuracy but due to its complexity Hazen-William and Mannings Equation
widely used.
