WCDMA RADIO NETWORK

FUNCTIONALITY
Chapter 3:
Radio Connection Supervision
Objectives of Chapter 3,
Radio Connection Supervision

After this chapter the participants will be able to:

1. Explain the purpose and function of Radio Connection Supervision

2. Explain how the radio connection supervision is carried out when the UE is
using a common channel
3. Explain how in-synch and out-of-synch is determined by the radio link set
supervision algorithm in the RBS when the UE is using a dedicated channel
4. Explain how the RNC supervises radio links (sets) when the UE is using a
dedicated channel

The Main Goals of the Radio
Connection Supervision
 Achieve an efficient resource usage in WCDMA RAN

 Avoid any long-term discrepancy concerning the status

of the connection between the UE and WCDMA RAN

 Avoid undue charging to customers

 To provide a basis of decision for other WCDMA RAN

functions (UEs in DCH state)
