High demand for blood transfusions: Pakistan has a high incidence of infectious diseases which can cause
complications that require blood transfusions. In addition, the country also faces high rates of road accidents
and other emergencies that require blood transfusions.
Shortage of safe blood supply: According to the Pakistan National Blood Transfusion Program, only 30% of
blood donations in Pakistan come from voluntary donors, with the remaining 70% coming from paid or
replacement donors. This poses a significant risk to the blood supply, as paid donors are more likely to have
infectious diseases.
Lack of awareness: Many people in Pakistan are not aware of the importance of blood donation or are hesitant
to donate due to cultural or religious beliefs. This contributes to the shortage of safe blood supply in the
country.
Importance of blood grouping: In Pakistan, where consanguineous marriages are common, knowing one's blood
type is crucial for couples to determine the risk of inherited diseases in their offspring.

Work Division Pre Execution
On 17th 20th and 21st March our group of 4 students arranged transport for all
the blood donors (including ourselves) to AFIT Blood Donation Hall in Peshawar
Road Rawalpindi. The aim of this was to assist the blood donors in donating
blood to help save lives. Blood donation at AFIT required filling out a form and
donating a sample of blood to test if the person is eligible to donate blood.
People who have heart disease, recent surgery or illness, hepatitis, or auto-
immune diseases are not eligible. Alhumdulillah every blood donor was in good
health. After the blood sample is checked the donor is asked to reach the blood
donation hall where he/she is asked to lie down on a medical bed where the
equipment for blood donation is set up. After the blood donation the doctor
gives the person a juice box because some people may experience dizziness after
donating blood. Every donor was then transported back to their home.
Thank You!
