FORCE-MOTION-

ENERGY
Third Quarter Interactive Lesson

A Presentation by Sir Weiner Villaverde

ARE YOU READY?
Let’s dive in to our topic for a more detailed discussion!
Can you define the following?
a. What is Motion?
b. What is Motion in one dimension?
a.What is Motion in two dimension?
b.What is Motion in 3D?
Can you define the following?
a.What is Distance and
Displacement?
b.What is Speed and Velocity?
c.What is Acceleration?
d.What is Free Fall?
Lets talk about the conceptual
terminologies!
MOTION

IN MOTION NOT IN MOTION

MOTION
• Moving and in motion is two different things.
• Change in position.
• The change in the point of origin of the body
relative to that frame with a change in time.
• Can be described in distance and displacement,
speed and velocity and acceleration.
1D MOTION (Motion in One
Dimension)
1D MOTION (Motion in One
Dimension)
• One dimension implies motion along a straight line or
in a single direction.

• Consider a car or a person driving down a straight road

or jogging on a straight track.

• Think of an object being tossed vertically into the air and

then watching it fall.
2D MOTION (Motion in Two
Dimension)
2D MOTION (Motion in Two
Dimension)
• Two-dimensional motion is the study of
movement in two directions, including motion
along a curved path, such as projectile and
circular motion.

• Two-dimensional (2D) motion means motion

that takes place in two different directions (or
coordinates) at the same time.
3D MOTION (Motion in Three
Dimension)
3D MOTION (Motion in Three
Dimension)
• If all the three co-ordinates specifying the
position of object changes time, then the
motion of object is called 3-D.

• In such a motion the object moves in a space.

Ex. A bird flying in the sky (also kite).
DISTANCE VS. DISPLACEMENT
DISTANCE VS. DISPLACEMENT
DISTANCE VS. DISPLACEMENT
• Distance is the actual length covered by the
moving object from one location to another.
Key phrases: How far the journey was?

• Displacement is the shortest length from starting

point to an end point.
Key phrases: Where it started? Where it ended?
SPEED VS. VELOCITY
SPEED VS. VELOCITY
•Speed is the rate of change in position
with relation to time.

•Velocity is the speed with it’s specific

direction.
SPEED VS. VELOCITY
ACCELERATION
ACCELRATION
ACCELERATION
• An objects’ capacity to gain speed within a short
time.

• be defined as the rate of change in velocity due

to change in speed and/or direction.

• Can either be classified as Accelerating or

Decelerating.
ACCELRATION
DUE TO
GRAVITY
ACCELERATION
DUE TO
GRAVITY

•Acceleration due to gravity is the

acceleration gained by an object due to
gravitational force.

•The acceleration for any object moving

under the sole influence of gravity.
FREEFALL
FREEFALL
•Can be defined as a state of a body that
moves freely in any manner in the
presence of gravity.
QUESTIO
N
•When you drop a piece of paper and
stone from the same height, which one
will reach the ground first? Is it the stone
or is it the paper?
ANSWER
•On earth, usually the rock will fall first to the
ground before the paper because of air
resistance.
•If you remove the presence of air resistance
of air in their motion, both of the objects
will reach the ground at the same time.
FREEFALL
UNIFORM MOTION
• Can be defined as a kind of motion where speed
is constant in a straight line which means its
velocity is constant.

• velocity remains constant along that line as it

covers equal distances in equal intervals of
time, in respect to the duration of the time.
Now lets talk about the formulas used!
VELOCITY-DISPLACEMENT –TIME
