Introduction of Loco bogie

GENERAL DISCRIPTION OF BOGIE

• Bogie Locomotive is designed as Co-Co axle arrangement (identical three-axle bogies)


• The whole superstructure of locomotive lies on the front and rear bogies through the support assemblies.
• Each bogie is connected with the loco under-frame by a set of drawbar mechanism which transfers
traction force or brake force.
• The side stops between car-body under-frame and bogie side-frame coordinate with the drawbar system
to limit the movement of bogie against car-body.
• To reduce the vertical vibrations and improve the running quality of locomotive, vertical dampers are
equipped between the bogie frame and the axle boxes.
• Bogies works as a leg of locomotive.
• One bogies contains 3axles, 6wheel,3traction motors, suspension arrangement and brake rigging etc.
Function and purpose of bogie
• Two same bogies are mounted on the lower portions of Ethiopian freight and passenger electric
locomotives.
• They are mainly used to bear the loads of locomotive body and equipments.
• Transfer the tractive effort.
• Guide the locomotive to run on track safely.
• One bogies contains 3axles,6wheel,3TM,suspension arrangement and braking rigging etc.
• Bogies works as a leg of locomotive.
Types of bogie

According to wheel arrangement bogie are to two types.

1. Bo-Bo bogie;- means Bi axle bogie, axle independent


driven and it contains 2 axle,4wheel ,2TM.
2. Co-Co bogie;- means Tri axle bogie, axle independent
driven, contains 3axles, 6wheel,3TM, suspension
arrangement and brake rigging etc.

The bogie is mainly composed of frame, wheel sets, drive unit, primary
suspension and secondary suspension, traction device (bogie to body
connection), brake equipment and bogie attachments .

Traction Motor Suspension Gear

• One end of the traction motor is supported on the wheelset axle through axle box
bearing.

• Other end is suspended on the cross beam mounting base of the frame.

• Spherical rubber joints are mounted on two ends of the hanger rod to damp the
vibration of the traction motor in motion and adapt to the relative motion between the
wheelset and the frame.

• Fall-proof safety device of traction motor is arranged between the frame


and the traction motor.

• After the motor suspender is failed, the device can restrain the motor to fall off and lift
up, so as to guarantee the absolute running safety of the bogie.
Wheelset Drive Device
• The drive system mainly comprises wheelset, axle box, traction motor, gearbox,suspension
bearing and other main spare parts.

• The traction motor is an AC asynchronous motor with the rated power of 1225kW.

• The wheelset adopts integral rolled steel wheels and forging axle.

• The axle box bearing adopts an integral bearing unit to improve the application reliability of the
bearing.

• The free transverse momentum of the bearing is (0.1mm ~ 0.7mm) ±10mm-(0.1mm~0.7mm).

• A grounding device is mounted on an axle head of each wheelset to enable electric current on
the vehicle to flow to the ground through the grounding device and protect the bearing from
electric current corrosion; another axle head of the wheelset is equipped with a speed sensor.

Frame is the skeleton of the bogie. It is not only a supporting body and a
force transmission body, but also a basal body for mounting and suspending
other spare parts on the bogie. The frame adopts a three-axle bogie frame,
and is of a traditional stair shaped welding steel structure. The frame
comprises two side beams, two cross beams and two end beams. Each
beam is a box beam welded by thin plates. The side beam adopts a straight
beam structure, and is provided with axle box pull rod seat, oil damper seat
and stop seat.
• The bogie frame is a simple, closed frame with two offset longitudinal beams, which
are connected together by two solid transverse beams in the middle and two end
beams. All the beams are made of welded box sections.
• The traction device was connected with the vehicle body and bogie.
• The function of wheel flange lubrication device of electric locomotive was to reduce
the friction between wheel set and steel rail and reduce the wear of wheel set flange.
• The wheel set driving device was composed of wheel set 、 axle box 、 traction
motor 、 gearbox,axle holding suspension device and other main parts
• The primary suspension is arranged between the axle box and the frame, and comprises
primary spring group, primary rubber pad, primary adjusting pad, primary vertical oil damper
(not arranged on the intermediate shaft), anti-falling steel wire rope (replaced by primary
intermediate hanger when lifting the intermediate wheelset ), axel box pull rod and
corresponding fasteners.
• The secondary suspension is arranged between the bogie and the vehicle body, and it
comprises secondary spring group (secondary spring, secondary upper spring seat, secondary
spring rubber pad (lower) and secondary spring adjusting pad), secondary vertical oil damper,
secondary lateral oil damper and fasteners for mounting the oil damper.
Bogie inspection
1. visually check whether all parts of the bogie were damaged (cracks, deformation, etc.),
whether there were loose parts and missing parts, and whether there was abnormal oil
stain on the bogie parts. Damaged parts must be replaced!
2. check whether the height from the lower end of the stone sweeper rubber plate and the
stone sweeper mounting plate to the rail surface meets the limit requirements, and if not,
adjust it;Check whether the height of the sand pipe from the rail surface and the distance
from the tread meet the limit requirements. If not, adjust it;
3. Check whether the height of the automatic neutral-section passing device from the rail
surface meets the limit requirements. If not, adjust it.

4, Check whether the axle line and sensor.
5, After the locomotive enters the depot, the wheels must be inspected to check
whether there were cracks on the wheel rim and whether there were cracks and
peeling on the tread. If any cracks were found, they must be handled immediately.
6, in order to avoid contact corrosion against bearing, bogie must be moved for at
least 20m in certain period, this period is calculated as follows according to storage
place. Stored in outdoor: in every 3 months; Stored in indoor: in every 6 months.
Stored in indoor with air conditioner: in every 12 months
