Summary of Design
Problem:

The local government of a city with a population of 200,000 is

planning to relocate its government center due to space
constraints. They have acquired a ten-hectare lot and a four-hectare
lot next to the sea for the new complex. In addition to government
facilities, the project includes a modern sports center, playground,
garbage incinerator, public market, bus terminal, and abattoir. The
city is situated by a bay with fertile agricultural lands, good fishing
grounds, and beaches, making tourism a priority. However,
pollution and squatting are issues along a 30-meter wide river
running through the city. The design will also include developing
driveways and promenades along the riverbanks.
 DESIGN CONCEPT
NEO CLASSICAL FILIPINO ARCHITECTURE REFERS
TO A STYLE THAT EMERGED IN THE PHILIPPINES

. DURING THE 19TH AND EARLY 20TH CENTURY.

THE STYLE IS CHARACTERIZED BY SYMMETRICAL
FACADES, COLUMNS, PEDIMENTS AND OTHER
CLASSICAL ELEMENTS. INCORPORATING NEO
CLASSICAL FILIPINO ARCHITECTURE OFTEN
SIGNIGIES POWER, AUTHORITY, AND SENSE OF
GRANDEUR REFLECTING COUNTRY’S COLONIAL
HISTORY.

THE SITE IS LOCATED NEAR THE SOUTCH CHINA
SEA AND HAS A 30 METER RIVER ON THE
. ADJACENT ROAD.
THE NORTHINGS IS POINTED TOWARDS
NORTHEAST
THERE ARE 3 ACCESS TO ROAD

FORM CONCEPT CHARACTERIZED BY ITS STEEP THATCHED ROOF AND
OPEN FLOOR PLAN. THE VERNACULAR ARCHITECTURE
REFLECTS TGE FILIPINO CULTURE VALUES OF
COMMUNITY ADDITIONALLY TO THE TROPICAL
CLIMATE AND HARMONY TO NATURE. IN THE DESIGN
OF THE PROJECT THE USE OF HIGH PITCH OF HIP
ROOF AND MODULARITY IN PLANNING WAS
INCORPORATED IN THE DESIGN.
