CHAPTER I: INTRODUCTION
Handling, storing, and delivering fresh crops from the field to the
market, as well as processing agricultural goods into food, crops, feed,
and industrial commodities, are all part of Agricultural & Bio-Processing
(ABPRO). The technologies created by ABPRO are designed with loss
reduction, quality retention, increased productivity, and cost
effectiveness in mind. The topics covered include refrigeration, crop
processing, mass, momentum, and heat transmission. Bioprocess
engineering is the physical or chemical modification of living cells or
their components (e.g., enzymes, chloroplasts). Bioprocess engineering
is the design of equipment and processes used in the production of
biological products such as food, feed, medications, nutraceuticals,
chemicals, polymers, and paper.
INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this paper is to inform students about the regulations and
law that ABE engineers and other specialists must follow, as well as the
various associated offices in the Philippines that they may be eligible to
join upon graduation. Students can learn about the cutting-edge
developments in agriculture and other industries thanks to the
interconnectedness of today's offices.

BIOTECHNOLOGY PROGRAM
DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE
BIOTECHNOLOGY PROGRAM
The Department of Agriculture Biotechnology Program’s main
purpose is to help create an enabling environment for the
development and better use of agricultural biotechnology as
one of technology options for food security, sector
competitiveness, and resilience to climate change. With the
Agriculture and Fisheries Modernization Act or AFMA of 1997
(RA 8435), the program aims to help the agriculture sector
move from resource-based to technology-based through
development of a wide range of biotechnology techniques
and tools while ensuring biosafety.
GOLDEN RICE
DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE
BIOTECHNOLOGY PROGRAM
Vitamin A deficiency (VAD) is the leading cause of
preventable blindness, and contributes to stunting and
malnutrition, among children five years old and below.
VAD weakens the body’s resistance to diseases and
infections, and may even result in death if left untreated.
Golden Rice is a new type of rice that contains beta
carotene (provitamin A, a plant pigment that the body
converts into vitamin A as needed). This compound is what
gives this grain it’s yellow-orange or golden color, hence
its name. Golden Rice is developed through genetic
engineering.
