Government intervention
It refers to the ways in which a government regulates
or interferes with the various activities or decisions
made by individuals or organizations within its
jurisdiction.
Democracy
comes from the Greek word

DEMOCRACY

It is a form of government in which the supreme power


is vested in the people and exercised directly by them
or by their elected agents under free electoral system or
a state of society characterized by formal equality of
rights and privileges.
Democratic Practice
It is a set of principles and practices that guide
how people interact and work together every
day to improve their community and to create a
more just society.
SUFFRAGE OR THE
RIGHT TO VOTE
It gives the people the opportunity to exercise
sovereignty by choosing the candidates who will
govern and serve them.
PUBLIC ASSEMBLY AND
CONSULTATION
"The Public Assembly Act of 1985," makes sure
that the people exercise their right to a peaceful
assembly.
MAJORITY RULES AND MINORITY
RIGHTS

is the making of binding decisions by a vote


of more than onehalf of all persons who
participate in an election.

AMEND A CONSTITUTIONAL
PROVISION
A plebiscite is an electoral process for
approving or rejecting a change or
amendment in the Constitution. It is in the
process of direct vote-say yes or no: accept or
reject.

above the law.

citizen of a country
c. Political Rights — rights that protect individual's freedom from
infringement by government, social institution, and private individual.

5. Freedom of speech — ensures that the citizen are able to voice out their
agreement, disagreement, affirmations, criticism, and proposal to their government.

Libel — a crime broadly characterized by maliciously publishing an


article or write up that may be detrimental to a person's character or
may cause dishonor.

6. Pluralism — people are entitled to diverse beliefs and opinions, which may result
in the becoming part of different organizations with varying thrust and advocacies.

Participation & its
Importance
Democratic participation is the empowerment of people
to effectively
involve themselves in creating structures, designing
policies and programs that
serve the interests of all. A significant element of a
good society is the demand for participation in the
governance. Democratic participation is built on the
popular support and full participation of people.
1. Democracy provides equality and admission to opportunities
for all itscitizen in the government;
2. checks and balances the government to prevent possible
abuse ofpolitical power from the officials;
3. allows citizens to influence and suggest policies and laws
throughplebiscite in selecting delegates or representatives.
4. allows the popular majority to oust a representative or a
politician who hold too much power and abuses it;
5. promotes freedom where citizen enjoy human rights, allows
people toengage the business and innovations;
6. becomes competent, firm, and stable when the state is ruled
withleaders who have dedication and transparency;
7. provides political education to the people telling them of the
stateaffairs; and
8. upholds change since the citizens have the opportunity to
participate in the involvement in the government
