Course Purpose
• This course will provide learners with knowledge on
determination of different types of loadings in structures

• Application of these loadings in design using the relevant


codes of practice

• The course will also cover the use of computer aided


structural analysis and design packages

• Detailing of the structural drawings

Expected Learning Outcomes
1. Determine different types of loadings on a structure from the
relevant codes of practice.
2. Design complete reinforced concrete structures.
3. Incorporate construction and expansion joints at the
appropriate locations in buildings.
4. Design and detail low rise industrial buildings in structural
steel.
5. Design and detail high rise residential and industrial buildings
in reinforced concrete.
6. Analyse indeterminate pre-stressed concrete structural
elements.
7. Design and detail liquid retaining and storage structures.

• In timber, steel, reinforced and prestressed
