It has four legs but cannot walk.

It has no

wings but can fly. Yes it can fly but you need a

very long tie. Made up of two bones and a

long tail and glides in the air. What is it?

Kite!
2. A kite is a quadrilateral with two distinct

pairs of consecutive sides that are congruent.

Note: Kite is a quadrilateral but not a

parallelogram.
In contrast to parallelograms where opposite
sides are congruent, in a kite the congruent
sides are consecutive.
Theorem #1

If a quadrilateral is a kite, then the

diagonals are perpendicular.
Given: Kite ABCD

Prove: ̅BD̅̅̅̅ ⊥ AC̅̅̅̅

Theorem #2
If a quadrilateral is a kite, then it has one pair of
opposite congruent angles.

If a quadrilateral is a kite, it has one pair of opposite

angles
Given: Kite ABCD
Prove: ∠A ≅ ∠C
∠B ≠ ∠D
Theorem #3
If a quadrilateral is a kite, it has one diagonal that
bisects the other diagonal.

If a quadrilateral is a kite, it has one diagonal that

bisects
Given: Kite ABCD
Prove: Diagonal BD̅̅̅̅
bisects diagonal
AC̅̅̅̅.
Example 1: Given the
⊡PQRS as marked and with
perimeter of 60 cm.

a. Find the value of y and

the length of each side if
|QP| = y + 5 cm and

|PS| = 5y – 5 cm.
Solution:
Example 1:

b. If |RT| = 3x + 1 cm,
|PT| = 5x – 3 cm, and
|QS| = 3x2 + 6x – 1 cm,
find the value of x and the
lengths of P̅̅̅ T̅ , RT̅̅̅̅ , and SQ̅̅̅̅ .
Solution:
Example 1:

c.) Find the area of the

figure.
Solution:

c.) Area of kite = 1⁄2 d1d2

Solution:

c.) Area of kite = 1⁄2 d1d2

A = 1⁄2 |RP||QS|
A = 1⁄2 (14)(23)
A = 161 cm2
Example 2:

Given ⊡JKLM is a kite. If

m∠MJK = 700, and
m∠MKL = 650, find the
measures of the other
angles.
Solution:
JL̅ is the ⊥ bisector of KM̅̅̅̅̅ ,
m∠JNK=m∠JNM=m∠MNL=m∠KNL = 90º.

∆MJK is isosceles and opposite angles of

congruent sides are congruent. If m∠MJK= 70º
, then m∠JKM = m ∠JMK = 55º
making m∠KJL = m∠MJL = 35º
If m∠MKL = 65º, then m∠KML = 65º ,making
m∠JKL = m∠JML = 120º.
Since ∆KNL is a right
