Computer Parts and Components MODULE 4 _ LESSON 1
Input Components
These refer to devices that accept data and
instructions from the user or another
computer system. These are classified
into 2.
Computer Parts and Components MODULE 4 _ LESSON 1
Output Components
Any piece of computer hardware equipment which
converts information into human-readable form. It can
be texts, graphics, tactile, audio & video. Some of the
output devices are visual display units, that is, a
monitor, printer, graphic output devices, plotters,
speakers, etc.

PROCESSING
COMPONENTS
Are the components/parts that are responsible to process all
data inputted in the computer.

THE 2 CLASSIFICATIONS OF
INPUT COMPONENTS
KEYBOARD
ENTRY
DIRECT ENTRY
Input Components
KEYBOARD
ENTRY
is data that are inputted on the computer to
the keyboard.
Input Components
KEYBOARD
is the first input device developed
for the PC. Data are transferred PC
over a short cable with a circular 6-
pin mini-din connector that plugs
into the back of the motherboard.
Input Components
DIRECT ENTRY
is a form of input that does not require data to be keyed
someone sitting at a keyboard. Direct-entry devices create
machine readable data on paper magnetic media, or feed it
directly into the computer’s CPU.
Input Components MODULE 4 _ LESSON 1
TOUCH SCREEN
TOUCH SCREEN
Is a display screen that is sensitive to the touch of
a finger or a stylus. It is used in myriad
applications, including ATMs, retail point-of-sale
terminal car navigation and industrial controls.
The touch screen became widely popular for smart
phones and tablets.
Input Components MODULE 4 _ LESSON 1
MOUSE
Is the most common used ‘pointing device’
used in PCs. Every mouse has two buttons
and most have one or two scroll wheels.

MOTHERBOARD_MAINBOARD_SYSTEM BOARD
MOTHERBOARD
The main circuit board of a computer. It
contains all circuits and components that run
the computer.
Input Components MODULE 4 _ LESSON 1
CPU
(CENTRAL PROCESSING UNIT)
PRIMARY STORAGE
(internal storage, main memory, or memory) is the computer’s
working storage space that holds data, instructions for
processing, and processes data (information) waiting to be sent
to secondary storage. Physically, primary storage is a collection
of RAM chips.
Input Components MODULE 4 _ LESSON 1
ADAPTERS
Printed-circuit boards (also called interface
cards) enable the computer to use a peripheral
device for which it does not have the necessary
connections or circuit boards. They are often
used to permit upgrading to a new different
hardware.
Input Components MODULE 4 _ LESSON 1
PSU
POWER SUPPLY UNIT
It is installed in the back corner of the computer
case, next to the motherboard. It converts 120vac
(standard house power) into DC voltage that is used
by other components in the PC
Input Components MODULE 4 _ LESSON 1
HDD
HARD DISK DRIVE
Also known as hard drive. It is a magnetic storage device
that is installed inside the computer. The hard drive is used
as permanent storage for data. In a windows computer, the
hard drive is usually configured as the C: drive and
contains the operating system and applications
Input Components MODULE 4 _ LESSON 1
DVD
DIGITAL VERSATILE DISK
COMPUTER CASE
also known as a computer chassis, tower, system
unit, or cabinet, is the enclosure that contains
most of the processing components of a personal
computer (usually excluding the display,
keyboard and mouse).
Input Components MODULE 4 _ LESSON 1
2 TYPES OF MEMEORY
ROM RAM
Input Components MODULE 4 _ LESSON 1
RO
(READ ONLY MEMORY)
M
It is non-volatile, meaning it holds data even when
the power is ON or OFF.
Input Components MODULE 4 _ LESSON 1
RA
(RANDOM ACCESS MEMORY)
M
It is volatile, meaning it holds data only when the
power is ON. When the power is off, RAM's
contents are lost.

MONITOR COMPUTER MONITOR
PRINTER
is a peripheral device which makes a persistent
representation of graphics or text, usually on paper.
While most output is human-readable, bar code
printer is an example of an expanded use for
printers.
Output Components MODULE 4 _ LESSON 1
LOUDSPEAKER
is an electroacoustic transducer, a device
which converts an electrical audio signal
into a corresponding sound.
Output Components MODULE 4 _ LESSON 1
PROJECTOR OR
IMAGE PROTECTOR
is an optical device that projets into a surface,
commonly a projector screen. Most projectors
create an image by shining a light through a small
transparent lens, but some newer types of
projectors can project the image directly by using
lasers.
