ACCIDENT DETECTION AND
REPORTING SYSTEM USING
GPS AND GSM
Introduction
 Now a days the rate of accidents are increasing day by day due to high
employment, the usage of vehicles like cars , bikes have increased,
because of this accidents can happen due to over speed.
 Over 1.68 lakh people died in one year due to accidents
 .People are going under risk because of their over speed, due to
unavailability of advanced techniques, the rate of accidents can’t be
decreased.
 So The main intention of this project is to find the accident spot at any
place and intimating it to ambulance or family members
Objective of the system
• The project has been taken from initial concept to the accidents while
driving on the road.
• Just because of delayed communication lot of people are dying due
to accidents
• So we can minimize the death rate by using advanced techniques
CAUSES OF ACCIDENT
• The population of our country has been increasing
rapidly which indirectly has decreased the vehicle
density and lea to many road accidents
• The main cause of accidents include drunk driving, use of
mobiles faster speed, careless ness.
ROAD ACCIDENTS INDIA
Previous system
 When an accident occurs the information only send
through GSM but there is no possibility to locate
the spot…..
 And MEMS and accelerometer is used
 High cost
Proposed system
 We designed this project with an automatic location system
using GPS and GSM-SMS services….
 Tilt sensor and arduino is used.
 Low cost

Tilt
sensor
Purpose of system
 To prevent the accident
 Detect the current location if accident occurs.
 It is a alert system which is used to give alert to family
or ambulance services after the accident.
 Fast emergency responses
WORKING
 When ever any accident occurs the tilt sensor will detect and
send mechanical force to GPS and GSM.
 And through GPS we will get particular location where
accident occurs the GSM send message to authorized
members,(family,108).
 The GPS positioning is done with the exact location of the
place by making Google maps.
List of components
 Arduino uno
 LCD display(16x1)
 GPS module
 GSM modem
 Buzzer
 Tilt sensor
 Push button
 Tilt sensor
 Connecting wire

ARDUINO UNO

 Basically arduino uno is a microcontroller board based on

ATmega328P.
 It is also called as minicomputer.
 A microcontroller board contains on board power supply, USB
port to communicate with pc.
FEATURES
•Microcontroller:ATmega328
•Operating Voltage:5V
•Input voltage:(7-12)
•Digital I/O pins:14
•Analog input pins:6
•Flash memory:32KB
•SRAM:2KB
•EEPROM:1KB
•Clock =16HZ
GSM
 A GSM modem is a wireless modem that work with a GSM
wireless network
 A wireless modem behaves like a dial up modem
 The main difference b/w them is that a dial up modem sends
and receives data through a fixed telephone line while a
wireless modem sends and receives data through radio waves.
 The GSM module consist of mobile station and SIM
GPS
GPS stands for global positioning system
There are at least 4 GPS satellites in the line of sight of a receiver
on the earth.
The transmitter GPS send information about the position and
time to the receiver.
TILT SENSOR
 It helps to monitor the tilt angle of the object based on gravity.
 The tilt sensor measure any angle rotation around +15 degrees
or -15 degrees which conform the indication of the accident.
Advantages
 Fast emergency services.
 To intimate the condition of the victim who met the accident.
 After accident fast indication by SMS.
 Road safety
 Low cost device
APPLICATIONS
 Used in automobiles
 To identify the vehicle accidents
Conclusion
 This project is used to minimize the deaths and the
severe condition due to accidents .The GPS and
GSM technologies are used where immediate action
would take place by the ambulance or police
services which might reduces the deaths.
 Improving road safety and emergency responses.
