Assertion

An ASSERTION is a statement or
declaration made regarding an idea,
a topic, or an issue. It expresses a
person's opinion, feelings, or
beliefs.

1. Basic Assertion
This is a simple and direct
expression of one's opinion,
feelings, or belief.
Examples of Basic Assertion
1. "I feel happy when I play with my friends."
2. "I like chocolate ice cream more than vanilla."
3. "I get scared when there's thunder during a storm."
4. "I feel proud when I learn something new."
5. "I feel sad when my favorite toy gets lost."
2. Emphatic Assertion
This shows sympathy to another
person. It is an acknowledgement of
the person's feelings or situation and at
the same time a show of support to the
rights of the person.
Examples of Emphatic Assertion
1. "I absolutely love playing with my toys!"
2. "I really, really, REALLY don't want to go to bed yet!"
3. "I am super excited about my birthday party!"
4. "I am positively sure that I can finish my homework quickly!"
5. "I absolutely, positively, 100% need that new toy!"
3. Positive Assertion

This expreses positive feelings or


emotions. To make this assertion one gives
a reason or an explanation for a good
feeling or opinion.
Examples of Positive Assertion
1. "I can do it!"
2. "I am kind and helpful."
3. "I love learning new things."
4. "I make mistakes, but I keep trying."
5. "I am loved just the way I am."
4. Confrontive Assertion

This states three closely related


actions: an action that was supposed
to be done, the actual action, and the
action that the soeaker wants done.
Examples of Confrontive Assertion
1. "Stop teasing me, it's not nice."
2. "I don't like it when you take my toys without asking."
3. "Please don't interrupt me while I'm talking."
4. "I feel upset when you ignore me."
5. "It's not fair when you always get to choose the game."
5. Escalating Assertion
This is a firm, but respectful statement
made by a person who is expecting
another person's response to his ot her
earlier assertion. However, the other
person has not given any response.
Examples of Escalating Assertion

1. "I'm really, really serious now!"


2. "I've had it up to here with you!"
3. "I'm not going to tolerate this anymore!"
4. "I'm getting really, really mad!"
5. "This is the last time I'm going to ask!"
6. I-Language Assertion
This expression negative feelings. It
describes the person's feelings toward a
certain negative behavior and states
what he or she desires to happen.
Examples of I-Language Assertion
1. I feel like my ideas aren't heard.
2. When you didn't buy the groceries like yo said yo
would, I couldn't cook the dinner for my parents. I feel
hurt and angry with you.

Nestor Vicente Madali Gonzalez, often


known simply as N. V. M., was an
internationally famed Filipino teacher and
writer of novels, short stories, and essays.
In 1997, near the end of his life, he was
proclaimed a National Artist of the
Philippines. N. V. M. Gonzalez was born in
Romblon, Philippines, on September 8,
1915.
