Calculate the change in

Enthalpy of a given
reaction using Hess Law.
Group 7
ENTHALPY CHANGE
-it is the standard enthalpy of formation, which
has been determined for a vast number of
substances. In any general chemical reaction, the
reactants undergo chemical changes and combine
to give products.
● It can be represented by the following equation:

● For any such reaction, the change in enthalpy is represented as Δ rH and is

termed the reaction enthalpy. The reaction enthalpy is calculated by
subtracting the sum of enthalpies of all the reactants from that of the products.
● Mathematically,
● ΔtH = Sum of enthalpies of the product – sum of the enthalpies of the
reactants.
Standard enthalpy of
reaction
● The enthalpy of a reaction depends on
surrounding conditions like temperature and
pressure. The standard enthalpy is calculated
when reactants and products are in standard
form, representing the enthalpy change
under standard conditions.
