MODULE NAME: LABORATORY LOGISTIC MANAGEMENT
MODULE CODE: MLT05101
TUTOR’S NAME: ELIUD KISHEBUKA
NAME OF STUDENT: RABIA RABII HUSSEIN
REGISTRATION NUMBER: NS5496/0011/2021
QUESTION:
I. Explain the relationship between Logistic Management Information system(LMIS) and
control of healthy facility.
II. Explain health commodities redistribution process conduct quantification of health
commodities using consumption data and budget
LMIS: Stands for Logistic Management Information System

LMIS_ Is a computer and paper based information system that helps

organization manage and monitor their logistic and supply chain activities.
LMIS typically includes order processing, transportation management and
data analytics. It enables organization to track and control the flow of goods
and improve order fulfillment process.

Control of health facilities refers to the management of healthcare facilities

to ensure that they operate efficiently, effectively and in compliance with
regulation and standard. This is through monitoring and evaluating the quality
of services provided, ensuring patient safety, resources management and
ensuring proper storage of documents and records also implementing policies
to prevent and control infections and managing finances and budget
The relationship between LMIS and the control of health facilities can be
identified as follow

• Inventory management: LMIS helps in the monitoring and managing the

stock levels of medicines and supplies in the health facilities. It provides real-
time data on the stock level, expiration date and consumption rates, Enabling
the facility manager to ensure adequate availability of essential items while
avoiding stockouts and overstocking.

• Resources allocation: Facility managers can use this information to allocate

resources effectively, ensuring that each facility has necessary resources to
meet patient needs.
• Quality assurance: LMIS facilitates the tracking and monitoring of the quality
of supplies used in health facility, since it can capture information on
manufacturer details, batch numbers and quality control indicators. This enables
the facility managers to only ensure quality supplies are used.
• Reporting and Analysis: LMIS generates various reports that provides
insight into the performance and efficiency of health facilities. Facility
managers can use these reports to evaluate the quality of the care provided
and identify the area of improvement. This helps in enhancing the overall
control and management of health facility.

• Integration with other system: LMIS can be integrated with other health
care system such as Hospital Information System(HIS) this integration
enables the information to flow between different systems, improving
coordination and communication among health care provider. It also helps in
maintaining accurate patient records. Hence control of health facility.
Health commodities redistribution process and conduct quantification of health
commodities using consumption data and budget.

Conducting quantification: refers to the process of analyzing consumption

data and budget information to determine the quality of health commodities
needed for a specific period.

It involves assessing the average consumption rate of each commodities and

comparing it with the available budget to identify any shortfalls or surpluses in
the supply.

Health commodities redistribution process: Involves transferring essential

medicines and supplies from area with surplus stock to area with insufficient
stock.
The aim of health commodities redistribution process is to ensure that this
commodities are available to where they are needed the most and promoting
equitable distribution and avoiding wastage

Consumption data: Refers to records of how much of particular health

commodities is used over a specific period of time.
Cont..
To conduct the redistribution process, quantification of health
commodities is necessary, This involves analyzing consumption data
and budget. This data is collected from health facilities through systems
like the Logistic Management Information System(LMIS).

The consumption data is analyzed to determine the average

consumption rate of health commodity. This information is then used to
estimate the quantity of commodities needed for a specific period,
considering factors like population size of patient and disease burden.
Budget information is also considered during quantification process. It
provides details on the available funds allocated for procurement of health
commodities. By comparing the estimated quantities needed with the available
budget, facility managers can identify if there is a shortfall or surplus in the
supply of commodities

Overall, quantifying health commodities using consumption data and budget

information helps in:
Ensure health facility have adequate supply of medicine and supplies.
 It enables effective resources allocation and distribution
 Ensures sufficiency and effectiveness of the treatment.
 proper care to patients
