INFORMATIONS
The Roman Forum was the forum of the city of Rome, that is the central area -
similar to the central markets of today's cities - where there are government
institutions, markets and religious. As today, trade, business, prostitution, religion
and the administration of justice took place here. The communal house stood.
Today, the forum known as For Romanum may seem like a messy collection of ruins
and stones for the uninitiated, but with a little imagination tourists can see the
Roman Empire coming back to life in this place. Parts of many buildings from
various periods are visible. The forum was surrounded by temples, churches and
triumphal arches. Three triumphal arches were built at For Romanum. These were
used by emperors to celebrate the military victories of the Roman Empire. Very little
can be seen of the first triumphal arch, built by Augustus in 29 BC.

TEMPLE OF CASTOR AND
POLUX
Only three columns remain to this day from the Temple of Castor and Polux. The
original temple was built in 484 BC. and the present ruins date from its last
reconstruction in 6 AD. The temple was built by the Roman dictator Postumius, who
swore to build this temple if the army defeated the kings of the Tarquinius dynasty,
who ruled Rome. According to legend, Castor and Polux, the mythological twins,
helped the Romanian army in battle and announced victory in For Romanum.
