Music
Program music played a big role during the 19th century.
Musicians during that time became more conscious of the
connection between their art and the world or environment they
live in. Linking music to poetry and painting, and eventually
helped composers relate their own work to the moral and political
issues of their time.

Program Music
Music
Program music became the key for musicians/composers to learn
to express clear feelings and the direct relationship between
music and life. Musical forms such as symphonic poem, ballade,
suite, overture, and some compositions in freer form are named
as program music.

a piece of music for orchestra or other large ensemble
which follows the form of a symphony-several

sonata-allegro form-and is usually named as a
"symphony," but is also programmatic, meaning that the
music is supposed to depict certain imagery or tell a
certain story (sometimes borrowed from literature).

3 Symphonic Poem
Program music for orchestra, in one movement, with
contrasting sections to develop a poetic idea, suggest a
scene, or create a mood. It differs from the concert overture
by having a much freer structure. The symphonic poem (also
called tone poem) gave composers the flexibility they
needed for a big single-movement form. It is usually a single
extended movement and does not follow the formal
conventions of the multi-movement symphony proper as
compared to the program symphony.

An orchestral piece in one movement designed
to serve as an introduction to an opera (or a
play). Many operatic overtures became popular
as separate concert piece which based on a
literary or patriotic idea. Opera, Ballet, Lieder
could also be considered program music since
they are intended to accompany vocal or stage
performances.
