VERB TENSE
• Verb:

Words that show action. For example walking, running, writing.

• 3 types of verb:

1. Action Verb

2. Linking Verb

3. Helping Verbs
ACTION VERB
• An action verb shows action and possession.

• For example, run, jog, jump, own, have etc.

• It has two types:

• In Transitive Verb, an object receives an action.


– Laura raised her hand in the classroom.

• In Intransitive Verb, an object does not receive an action.


– The book is sitting on the shelf.

– The shelf is eating dust.


LINKING VERB

• It links the Subject of any sentence to a Noun or Adjective to describe the subject.

– Lisa looked pleased with the new office setup.

– Jason appeared confident while interviewing for his new job role.

• Helping verbs such as “is, are, was, were” can also at times act as linking verbs. However, “to

become” and “to seem” will always act as Linking Verbs in a sentence.
HELPING VERB

• They are used before Linking or Action verbs.


• Purpose:
• They carry additional information about the helping or linking verbs.
– They tell the “possibility” of an action and “time”.
– Modal verbs such as can, could, would, may, might, ought to (need to) , shall, will.
• For example:
– Ali is going to college today.
– Dean might visit the hostel mess today.

TYPES OF PRONOUN

• Pronoun is used in place of noun.

• Why??

• For example, I, we, you, they, he, she, it.
