Placer mining
Ancient method of using water to
excavate, transport, concentrate, and
recover heavy minerals from alluvial
or placer deposits. Examples of
deposits mined by means of this
technique are the gold-bearing sands
and gravel that settle out from rapidly
moving streams and rivers at points
where the current slows down.
Definitions
Placer: an accumulation of rock clastic
material containing fragments,
aggregates, grains of valuable minerals
(gold).
Placer gold: crude gold obtained by
gravity concentration of alluvial ore
sands, mainly in the form of grains of
nugget precious metal of various sizes.
Miner: an individual entrepreneur
engaged in individual development and
mining of minerals.
Gold receiving offices: a point for
accepting gold from individual miners.
Procedure for obtaining a Certificate

• Certificate: a document granting the right to mine placer gold on an allocated land
plot.
• Issued by: local state administration
• Validity period: 1 year
• Documents:
• Application
• Extract from the Consolidated Register on absence/elimination of violations
Prospectors' responsibilities

• Use only the gravity method of gold mining


• Comply with:
• Environmental safety rules
• Technical safety rules
• Fire safety rules
