Introduction
Autodesk Navisworks is a comprehensive project review solution for AEC
professionals that supports
 simulation,
 coordination,
 analysis, and
 communication of design intent and constructability.
 Navisworks enables design data created in a broad range of programs to be
combined into a single, integrated project model. co

Project stakeholders can then review that model to gain better control over
project outcomes. The program’s:

 schedule,
 quantification,
 Animation, and
 visualization capabilities enable teams to coordinate various disciplines,
 resolve conflicts, and plan projects before construction even
begins. ordination, analysis, and communication of design intent and
combined into a single, integrated project model.
3
Navisworks is available in three versions

Navisworks Freedom
model viewer can only open NWD, DWF files, and files from Autodesk Recap. In addition, you can open

models from BIM 360 directly in Navisworks to review and resolve model coordination issues . NDW
Navisworks Simulate
is the base-level product and includes all program features, except for the Clash Detective. NDW

Navisworks Manage
is the top-level of the program and includes all features in Navisworks Simulate, plus the Clash Detective.

4
Objectives
1. Better communicate intent
2. Ensure that everything fits together properly without
clashes
3. Set the construction time line and sequencing

5
Navisworks compares with Revit and BIM 360

 Revit is classified as a Building Information Modeling (BIM) tool

which is used in the process of creating designs,
 Revit is a 3D modeling software, and Navisworks is a project review
software.
 BIM 360 is an Autodesk cloud-based solution that allows project teams
to effectively work in a collaborative environment.
 Navisworks is used primarily as a program for design review, allowing
professionals to ensure that their work is error-free.
 Navisworks, another BIM solution developed by Autodesk, serves a
distinct role compared to BIM 360.
 Navisworks is primarily designed as a project review solution for
constructors, architects, and engineers.

Benefits of Using Navisworks

Advantages of Navisworks Drawbacks of Navisworks

● Improved collaboration through better ● Limited compatibility with other

coordination among project team members software platforms
● Efficient clash resolution through advanced ● Steep learning curve for new users
clash detection tools ● Requires additional cost for software
● Significant time savings by streamlining the licenses

design review and approval process

File formats
 Navisworks can open files created using a wide range of programs, including
Autodesk products such as
• AutoCAD,
• Inventor,
• Revit, and 3DS Max; as well as other programs such as MicroStation,
ArchiCAD, CATIA, SolidWorks, and Allplan. Supported file formats include
DWG, DXF, DWF, DGN, IGES, STEP, IFC, and SKP.
Navisworks itself has three native file formats
1. An NWC or cache file is created automatically when you open or append any
native CAD or laser scan file in Navisworks.
2. An NWD file contains all model geometry together with Navisworks-specific
data, such as review markups. You can think of an NWD file as a snapshot of
the current state of a model. NWD files are very small. They compress CAD
data by up to 80%.(NWM,NWS,AND NWF)
3. An NWF file contains links to the original native files together with
Navisworks-specific data. No geometry is saved with this file format, which
makes an NWF file even smaller in size than an NWD file.

Consolidate Models(Append & Align)
• Many different file formats can be opened directly in the Autodesk
Navisworks software or can be appended together in to a single
consolidated model.

• When appending multiple models together, it is important to ensure that

they scaled properly and line up with each other correctly.( Align)
12
Reviews
• Saving and Retrieving Views( View Points)

Helps to focus on specific conditions in the scene so that you share the information
quickly with others.

• Sectioning the model

When you enable sectioning, you can create and modify cut planes to
customize the views you need.

• Setting View Options

Controlling how a scene displays can help you more clearly how things
work together
13
Analyze Models
• Selecting items
To discover about them, selection can be grouped into sets that
enable you to modify their visibility and reselect them when
they are required again.
• Using the selection tree
It is used to select very specific information in the model, right
down to the material if required.
• Hiding and unhiding items
It can help to hide items that are in thee way or to isolate them
so that to investigate them more thoroughly.

14
Communication
• Using measuring Tools
Measuring distance, angles and areas in a model is critical part
of using the Autodesk Navisworks software.
• Marking up scenes for review
Adding comments or other geometry in addition to dimensions
to fully communicate any questions you have regarding the
design.

15
Collaboration
• Overview of the clash detective
The clash detective eliminates the tedious manual process of inspecting
and identifying interference clashes in a 3D project model.
• Setting up clash tests
• Reviewing Clash Results
• Assigning clash Fixes
• Sharing clash Test Results

16
Clash Detection
REPORTS
01 Autodesk Navisworks helps identify and resolve
clashes in construction projects.

02 It allows for efficient coordination and

communication between multiple disciplines.

03 The clash detection feature saves

time and reduces costly rework on site.

04 Examples of clashes include clashes between

pipes and beams or conflicting spatial
requirements.

Construct
• Quantification

• Introduction to time liner

The timeliner window is used to connect tasks in the Gantt

chart with elements in the model to simulate construction.

• Manually Creating a Construction simulation

• Importing an external task list

You can use Timeliner to import project schedules from a

variety of external data sources. 19
Quantification
It enables you to measure material quantities, measure areas and count

components using data from your 3D models and your 2D drawing sheets.

• Setting up a quantification project

• 3D model and Virtual takeoff

Model takeoff uses data that has been exported from the design model to

derive the takeoff data for the report.

Virtual takeoff enables you to manually add takeoff items to the

quantification workbook.
