BASICS OF DESIGN

INTRODUCTION
CONCEPT OF DESIGN
• A design concept is the core idea driving the design of a
product, explained via a collection of sketches, images,
and a written statement.
• is about forming, modeling, shaping a new idea,
approach, abstraction of an implementation.
• Developing a design concept demands a clear
understanding of the type of problems to be solved, the
ideal aesthetic style, the target audience, and the
client’s needs (if working on an external project).
• Example:- eHealth, customer self-service, robotics, 3d
printing....
What is Design?
• It is some kind of effort in beautifying the
appearance of things.
• Is it enough definition? Look around yourself and
think.
• It is different from painting and sculpture.
• Design is an industrial product that must fill
practical needs.
• It should not only be just aesthetic, but also
functional.
Perception
• the ability to see, hear, or become aware of
something through the senses.
• A way of regarding, understanding , or interpreting
something; a mental impression.
• Designers in general are seen as master developers
of perceptions. They create perceptions through
using shapes, colors, typography, visual
organizations, images, and light.
THE VISUAL LANGUAGE
• The visual language is the basis of design creation.
There are principles, rules, or concept in respect of
visual organization.
• A designer can work without conscious knowledge
of any of these principles rules or concepts,
because his personal taste and sensitivity to visual
relationships are much more importan.
INTERPRETING THE VISUAL
LANGUAGE
• There are numerous ways of interpreting the visual
language. Unlike the spoken or written language of
which the grammatical laws are more or less
established.
• The visual language has no obvious laws. Each
design theorist may have a completely different set
of discoveries.
