NATURAL

RESOURCES
Natural Resources
Natural resources are materials found on the
Earth that are used to meet peoples needs and to
support life.
Types of Natural Resources

Water Resources Forrest Resources Animal Resources Solar Power

Precious Metal, Minerals

Wind Power Crude Oil Natural Gas Land Resources
and Rocks
Man-made VS. Natural
Man-made resources are Natural resources are
resources made by people. resources from nature and the
environment.
Organic Resources
Organic resources are made from
living things. Theses are
nutrients that derive from living
matter.
Inorganic Resources
Inorganic resources are made
from non-living things. These
nutrients are found in minerals
and other non-living substances.
Renewable Resources
Renewable resources are resources that
naturally replenish themselves. Like
animals or energy from solar, or other
renewable sources.
Non-Renewable Resources
Non-renewable resources are resources
that do not naturally replenish and their
supply is limited like oil and coal
Environmental Effects
Unsustainable use of natural
resources depletes material and can
cause problems like pollution and
destruction of ecosystems.
Why Does It Matter?
We must do our part to use resources wisely to
help keep Earth healthy!
How much do you know about these resources?

True or False Question No. 1

1. Anything useful that comes from nature

is referred to as a natural resource.

TRUE FALSE
True or False Question No. 2

2. A renewable resource is one that is

limited in supply and cannot be replaced in
a short period of time.

TRUE FALSE
True or False Question No. 3

3. It can take millions of years to produce

some of our natural resources.

TRUE FALSE
Let's check our answers!

Natural resources are useful resources that come

1 True from nature — most of them provide us with energy.

A nonrenewable resource is one that is limited in

2 False supply. Unfortunately these types of resources

cannot easily be replenished.

3 True Natural resources are formed over millions of years.

6. The burning of fossil fuels

releases
in the air.

Oxygen Carbon Dioxide Nitrogen Hydrogen

Let's check our answers!

Fossil fuels, which are formed from

4 Fossil Fuels the remains of decayed organisms, are

the earth's main source of energy.

Renewable resources are some of the cleanest

5 Renewable sources of energy.

The burning of fossil fuels is an

6 Carbon Dioxide environmental concern, because it is

a major cause of global warming.
PART 3:

IDENTIFICATION
Identification Question No. 7

The energy from

falling water may be
converted into this type
of energy.
Identification Question No. 8

is the
stored chemical
energy of plants and
trees, burning wood.
Let's check our answers!

This is a type of kinetic energy.

Specifically, hydroelectric energy is

7 Hydroelectric moving water (usually from a waterfall or

a dam) to turn turbines and generate
electricity.

The energy produced from biomass (such

as wood and organic waste) can be used
8 Biomass for heating and cooking, as well as
electricity.
