It aims to ensure that physiotherapists have the freedom to practice

their profession independently (autonomously), which has sanction in the

development of national health policies, ensures that everyone can benefit

AWARENESS OF RESPONSIBILITY

• Physiotherapists can change the program by re-evaluating their


patients at certain intervals during the treatment program, keep a
detailed data file about the patient and prepare a report.

• During the physiotherapy program, PT directs his patient to the


relevant physician for suggestions and help PT can give in case of a
medical problem.

PHYSIOTHERAPIST'S EQUAL BEHAVIOR

PTs in Turkey practice their profession regardless of race, religion,


political or social status.

DUTIES OF THE PHYSIOTHERAPIST

• The physiotherapist is responsible for the evaluation, planning and


implementation of the physiotherapy and rehabilitation program in
people diagnosed by the physician.

• It is the responsibility of the physiotherapist to protect human dignity


during professional practice.

• While performing their roles, PT’s obey the universal medical ethical
principles of utility, non-harming, justice and equality.

COMMERCIAL PURPOSE AND ADVERTISING
PROHIBITION
• While practicing the profession, PT cannot advertise, be a tool for
commercial advertisements, and can not give a commercial appearance
to PT’s work.

• All physiotherapists in Turkey must comply with the ethical principles of


the Turkey Physiotherapists Association.

• PTs know that it is unethical to put their personal economic interests


first.

LEGAL AND PROHIBITED METHODS

• While performing profession, PT defends the principle of preventive


interventions with scientific, contemporary evaluation and treatment
methods.

PROHIBITION OF SERVING INTERESTS IN
RELATIONS WITH THE INDUSTRY
• PT may not establish any conflict of interest with industry organisations.

• Relations with scientific research and education should be transparent


and institutional.

• If the physiotherapist works for or owns a company or organization that


sells physiotherapy equipment and auxiliary equipment, PT cannot use
the name of the Physiotherapists Association for advertising purposes.

MALPRACTICE

• Harming a patient due to ignorance, inexperience, or indifference is


malpractice of PT.

• PTs cannot have another professional member do any application that


requires special skills, knowledge and decision authority, which they
should apply.

RESPECT FOR PATIENT RIGHTS

• PTs prioritize the rights and interests of patients while practicing their
profession.

OBLIGATION TO KEEP CONFIDENTIAL

• PT can not disclose information about patients that should not be


disclosed to third parties.

• However, it can provide information to the relevant institutions and


persons after patient’s permission.

FREEDOM OF CHOOSING THE TREATMENT

• PTs respect that patients choose other hospitals or physiotherapy


clinics for their treatment.

USE OF THE EFFECT ON THE PATIENT

• PT cannot use its effect on the patient for other than medical
purposes.

INFORMED CONSENT-I

• The physiotherapist informs the patient about the patient's health status, the
evaluation, the recommended treatment method and the chance of success of
this method, the duration of the treatment, the risks of the treatment method for
the patient's health, possible side effects, and the consequences of the disease if
the patient does not accept the recommended treatment.

• The information should be written in a simple way that the patient can understand.

• Consent is invalid if obtained under duress(force) or threat.

INFORMED CONSENT-II

• In cases where the patient is younger than 18 years old or unconscious, the
permission of the legal representative is obtained.

• If the physiotherapist thinks that the legal representative's refusal to give


permission is in bad faith and this situation threatens the patient's life, the
situation should be transferred to the judicial authorities and permission
should be obtained.

• The patient can withdraw the consent form given at any time.

TERMINATION

• When PT determines that the patient has received adequate


rehabilitation service through his/her observations and evaluations,
he/she is obliged to finish the program of the patient and to include
another patient in need of rehabilitation.

• PT knows that when necessary, should talk to the referring doctor


about the patient's condition.

FEE

• The patient can obtain information about the fee from PT in advance.

• PT cannot receive a wage below the base wage determined by the


professional organization in all evaluation and treatment attempts.

PROHIBITION TO EXPENSE
UNNECESSARILY
• Regardless of the patient's financial situation, PT can not recommend
expensive methods unless absolutely necessary, cannot make the
patient spend unnecessary expenses, and cannot give a treatment
that PT knows will not be beneficial.

GIVING THE PATIENT'S INFORMATION TO THE
PATIENT AND USING THIS INFORMATION
• The patient may request a summary of the information in his/her file
and a copy of the documents.

• PT cannot give this information to anyone else unless there is a legal


obligation.

• PT can use disease history, assessment, and treatment data for


research without revealing the patient's identity.

RESPECT BETWEEN COLLEAGUES

• PT should work in good relations with his/her colleagues.

PROFESSIONAL SOLIDARITY

• The senior or chief PT is responsible for supervising and transferring


experience to the PT starts working after him.

OBLIGATION TO COMPLY WITH
INTERNATIONAL CONTRACTS
• It has to comply with the common rules regarding universal
physiotherapists, especially the universal declaration of human rights.

MEDICAL AID TO BE GIVEN TO
INVESTIGATORS AND CONVINCES
• Evaluation of detainees and convicts is carried out in conditions
suitable for practicing the profession of physiotherapist, which
respects personal rights like other patients.

• PT should also keep the information of these patients.

• PT has the right to make any request necessary to meet these


conditions.

EXTRAORDINARY SITUATIONS AND WAR

• PT performs his/her profession with ethical values, with impartiality


(eduality) in war and extraordinary situations.

PUBLIC HEALTH

• PT aims to protect public health and tries to prevent the practice of


physiotherapy profession by ignoring ethical rules.

RESEARCH ON HUMAN

• Regardless of the method and approach, clinical, experimental or


epidemiological studies on humans should be carried out in order to
contribute to scientific knowledge and should be done right after the
approval of local ethical committees.

PUBLICATION ETHICS

• PT should reflect scientific realities when evaluating research data and


preparing it for publication.

• Persons who did not actually participate in the study should not be
included in that publication.

• Information and data belonging to another study cannot be used


without reference or permission.

PT'S ACADEMIC DEVELOPMENT

• PT must constantly renew themselves in terms of training.

• PTs should participate in in-service training, congress, conference and


other training activities.

• PT has an obligation to publish the results of the treatment he/she


applied with research and share it with his/her colleagues and other
health professionals.

PT'S ACADEMIC DEVELOPMENT

• PTs should support the students they supervise during clinical practice
and share their knowledge and experience with them.

• PT should be encouraged by the faculties to apply for master's and


doctorate programs after undergraduate graduation, to complete
these trainings and to further their professional qualifications.
